North Korea's vaunted military- Mosins?

This photo was taken in Oct 2015. Times must be tough for Kim's boys. Still using Mosins. I know probably just drill rifles. Or maybe not!

The DPRK likes variety in their military parades. Virtually every East Bloc firearm has been seen on parade there at one time or another.

NK probably still uses homing pigeons to send messages to the front lines as well. Cool to see those rifles are still being used but kind of sad when you look at China/USA/Russia military demo's.

A number of militaries still use older pattern rifles for ceremonial purposes on account of the looks and the "slap and rattle" effects during drill. The US still uses all of M1903s, Garands and M14s for this reason. At one point the German Bundeswehr was using M98 Mausers for this. S. Korean, Danish and Greek "palace guards" still use M1 Garands for ceremonial purposes, and there are probably others.

IIRC this pic was taken at the 70th anniversary celebration of Kim Il Sung's single handed victory over the Japanese thus ending WW2.
A reenactor unit.

I was in Budapest in 2013 and the palace guards then had what looked like M1895 Mannlichers to go along with their old-style uniforms, complete with jack-boots.

I don't think I'd want to be doing drill where the guy in the rank behind me is resting his bayonet on my shoulder.

Their dressing looks good though.

If you love old straight-bolt Mausers - THOUSANDS of 'em - and old-style Prussian military - Army and Navy uniforms and marching bands - take a peek at Preussens Gloria - Ejercito de Chile on Youtube. Last one I saw made the Trooping of the Colour in London look like a bunch of amateurs - I was ashamed.

The Mujahideen and Viet Cong didn't have shiny new weapons nevertheless they were more than up to the task. North Korea may not have the newest weapons but there isn't much question that they are extremely tough and resourceful soldiers. A bullet from one of their rifles is just as deadly as it was 70 years ago at Stalingrad where Russian "peasants" showed the master race how to wear their ass for a hat.
