Northern Alberta centrefire?

Is there ever any requirement for volunteers at these matches?

In other hobbies I have picked up I've been able to learn a lot from volunteering at events and tournaments. I could watch more experienced practictioners doing their thing, ask questions, learn tips and tricks.

If there are similar opportunities in long range shooting that's something I would definitely like to do. I'm in Edmonton, so northern Alberta would also be my preference.

I’m sure you could learn the ropes by just spectating a couple matches and step up to volunteer to be on glass and entering scores into tablets, from there every competitor should know the safety rules and the procedures before even arriving at a match but there is always a safety brief and rulebook should be present at the event

Be aware most all matches in PRS throughout Canada are self RO’d by the squad (unless a national level match where they may have dedicated Range Officers for the event in which case they are volunteering or sometimes paid or compensated in various ways) so you could take some of the load off the competitors by showing up and offering to volunteer. I can tell you set up and tear down is labour intensive and volunteers are always needed.

I’m no longer living in Alberta but as a match director of over half a dozen matches last year if you showed up to a match I was running you would be put to work immediately and in fact you would be handed one of our personal rifles with ammo on the first day and encouraged to shoot at least a stage or 2 under our direct supervision, have done this repeatedly and the next match the spectator is usually back as a competitor, this is how we build a community.

I suggest joining the FB group for CHAS (Canadian Historical Arms Society) Precision Rifle League aka CHAPRL (formerly known as Wild Rose Action Shooters which was absorbed into CHAS due to rising insurance costs, material costs, ect for 2024) and reach out to the MDs on there to let them know you are interested in volunteering.
