What do you feed you NC 30/06 mauser k98? What woudl be the best bullets to use (I reload). I made some 30/06 dummy rounds and the rifle seem to be a lil bit hard to close on them.

thanks guys

Your rifle might be just a bit on the tight side as to headspace.

Not to worry. Get a spare shellholder and trim about .001" from the top, then adust your sizing die accordingly.

Friend had one of these, fed it most of the time with Honady 165s and Sierra BT 168s, running them just under the the high-end book loads. CONSISTENCY is more important than velocity.

Loading like this, we got repeatable 3-shot groups from the rifle at 300 measured yards, for 5 years, of one inch. These critters are SERIOUS accurate if you give them a chance.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I've heard a lot of re-chambering jobs can end up leaving the rifle bit tight, a friend of a friend had the same issues with his .30-06 Norwegian K98, he was given the same info Smellie gave you and it cleared it up. From what I've heard, it's a tack driver of a rifle. Hope you have fun.

When "ski-shooting" was a demonstration sport at the Olympics, the four Scandinavian countries demonstrated it, using teams from their military. The Finns brought their ugly old Moisin-Nagants in 7.62x54R, the Swedes brought some of their lovely 6.5x55 Mausers, the Danes opted for captured German Mausers rebarreled to 6.5x55 and the Norwegians brought their .30-06 Kar 98ks.

I have no idea who won, but the shooting was out to 300; it must have been magnificent!

Now, of course, it has been renamed (Biathlon), completely demilitarised and everything except totally neutered. No targets farther than 100 and everybody shooting silly little .22s with stupid handgrips on the muzzles.

Give them another couple of phoney olympiads and they will be shooting it with Airsoft and having the "guns" locked into racks at each target station. Shooters will have to wait until they show their permits, then the rack will be unlocked and the Official will get out their Airsoft for them and hand them the necessary 5 pellets for each 5-metre stage......

Stupid b*stards running the show have managed to forget that, originally, ALL of the Olympic sports were military in nature: running to a fight, running away from the fight, throwing big pointy things, throwing big weights, rasslin' t'other guy down, beating on him with your hands: a non-lethal precursor to the gladiatorials.

Oh well, we should be glad that they haven't made it completely multicultural. Canada wouldn't have a chance in the "Traditional Tea-Serving" event: Canadians and Americans just aren't very good at bowing and scraping.

But those Norski Mausers, some of them, went there and did that..... and they were just about ALL that good.

Now, if we could just get Kongsberg to turn out a LITTLE batch of barrels for Garands.....

Can you even IMAGINE that?

The Norwegian 30-06's were re-barreled, not re-chambered. I have a nice one. When I used to take it to the range, the guys would all have a go with it.
