This was acquired by my father from a GM Dealership in rural Saskatchewan in the early 1970's. The original shortened beech stock had a large (at the time deamed);; irreperable crack.A new custom walnut stock was fashioned by a fellow my uncle knew in the Ancaster area.
The numbers all match, both the German markings and the Norwegian, including the butt plate. The forestock metal was never with the rifle as we knew it.

Oh my. That's a "Stomperud" Krag built in German Occupied Norway. Not many were produced, and in unmolested condition, they go for over $1000, well over that in the US.

I wish it still had the original stock. Not a plethora of them to choose from, but the walnut stock fits and feels wonderful. It is lovely to shoot and I am beyond impressed at the exceptional qualities of the 6.5x55 chambering. AMAZING engineering from well over 100 years ago.

When I was starting to research the Stomperud Krags I saw one listed on a US auction site that had survived intact with complete barrel and forestock that went for around $6500.00.

I do wonder about the front sight.
Would anyone know what it is (from)?
Where I could find the two prong tool that fits the screw in it?

Trying to get some info on a Norwegian site, I came across this:

The Stomperud Krag was made in years 1943 and 44

Will try to get some info on the front sight adjustment, in the meantime - a snap ring plier may do the job if it is not too tight...

The latest model (before the war) that had the screw with the two holes looks to be a 1907: http://www.kvf.no/vaapen.php?type=Rifle&weaponid=RIF0100

Thank you so much!
It is my understanding that about 1/3 of these were deliberately made defective.
I have gone through quite an interesting emotional journey regarding this rifle. For a while I quite resented its Nazi presence. Recently I value it as a reminder of something we must never let happen again. I imagine the pain and emotional turmoil suffered by the workmen forced to make these rifles, often wondering how many were made examples of, if many were caught making substandard parts.
