help question!!

hello
just bought a m1912 krag, its been sporterized, it should be a good shooter rifle.

when i took it apart to clean an inspect it, the screw for holding the extractor broke in 2.

SO.
any idea how i can remove the bottom of the screw out of its hole in the bolt sleeve with out ruining the threads ?

is this screw a common thread or something ill need to get an actual replacement for?

any help / ides most welcomed.

I know the screw you mean. I bet the broken part is not in there very tight at all. That screw gets stressed during install and removal of extractor by anyone trying to do it that isn't familiar with them. I read a lot of tips on removing broken screws in here and on graybeardoutdoors dot com. Left handed drill bit might be a good choice for blind hole. Even a right handed drill bit will take it out of there. If someone has foolishly used loctite then heat is necessary to get rid of it. Need to properly centre punch it to drill. The smallest regular quality bits break very easily. Not recommended to do it freehand and in this case all you have to vise is the bolt so easy to use any regular drill press. I think 3/32 would be good bit size if you can get a really centred punch mark. Just the drilling vibration might loosen it out of there. I couldn't find screw extractors in these very small sizes at ebay or amazon but should be at local tool and die supply places. Even a bit of a search for them at Brownells. But I think that one will come out just by drilling, and I think the screw should not be too hard to find a replacement for, maybe best bet is a smith or milsurp contact.
