Could someone please tell if me the Norwegians issued specific, marked, bayonets and slings for their refurbished K98ks or if they are indistinguishable from the original German ones? I would really like to find a correct matching sling and bayonet for mine.

As far as I could find out they mostly used German accessories, although I have heard of some post war Norwegian slings being made - that were absent the crosscut pattern on the leather, if that is true they must be rare.

I asked this question of the fellow who sold me my SKY k98 - The majority of the bayonets were either unaltered and surplussed off separately or some were re-worked to work with the Garand.

Only k98 bayo I ever saw (with the ALICE modded frog to fit American web gear) had a $600 price tag on it. Twice what I paid for the rifle.

Thanks for the responses guys, all good things to know. If anyone knows where to score one of those post-war manufactured slings please let me know :D otherwise I think I will end up going with one of the repros on ebay. It's time to fit my k98 proper and take off the paracord-rig-up I have for a sling now.

SKY k98? What is SKY, a word like HAER on the Norwegian K98's?

I'm guessing he meant FLY, as in air force.

HÆR....... Hæren (Army)
HV......... Heimevernet (rough equivalent of the National Guard)
FLY......... Flyvåpenet (Air Force)
KNM....... Kongelige Norske Marine (Navy)
K.ART..... Kistartilleriet (Coastal Artillery)
NSB....... Norges Statsbaner (Norwegian State Railway Police)
POLITI.... Polizia (Department of Justice & Police)

Bayo's were generally just re-used and sometimes re-serialized

Sling's were generally original WWII or some post war were made. Usually missing the leather on the back of the metal slide catch. Sometimes these are sold as "un-issued WWII slings".

Cleaning rods were reproduced in Norway post war for the military and not for the collectors market.

Placing a WWII sling and bayonet would be correct. However, most people don't leave the original slings on rifles as the leather starts to crack. Usually they get rolled up for display.

The serial numbers on the bayonets are concerned with bayonet batch numbers are were not numbered to a rifle, this is a misconception.

However, early bayonets were numbered to their scabbards.

Thanks.

Yup. Air Force rifle. Apologies:redface:

I bought mine from a fellow in Olds Alberta who had it hanging in the back of his truck. He told me it usually rode in the back of his fencing trailer with the posts and rolls of wire for potting Coyotes - the finish was gone and the stock pretty well chewed. I paid $50 and a box of beer. His Brother was a friend of the old boy who ran Crown Surplus in Calgary - he hooked me up with a sling, cleaning rod and bayonet and told me about converting the k98 bayonets to work with their Garand rifles. Was right about the time they took delivery of all those deactivated .50 guns from Canada's last Saber jets.

BS or not I dunno, but he seemed to know his business.
