I loaded some 90 gr E tip bullets for my .243. The rifle shoots 100 gr Sierra gk around 3/4 inch regularly. Used the same powder and primer combo and seated just off the lands and these E tips looked like a shotgun patern ....6 inch groups at best. I shot some game kings right after to make sure it was not a scope/rifle issue and the groups Shrunk back down to 3/4....Tried different powder charges to no avail. I'm using imr 4831 and cci 200 lr primers in winchester and federal brass. Any thoughts on why these won't group. I understand that certain bullets work better in certain rifles but this seems way off base.I was hoping to get 1" to 1 1/2 "accuracy for hunting loads.

I am working on loads with these in my 240 Weatherby, they say to seat them in fairly deep. I have not shot to many different loads yet but have some groups around 1" with a couple different powders and have to start playing with the seating depth to see if I can get the group size down a bit. My gun is not showing any pessure signs loading these up to max powder charge listed for Balistic Tips even though Nosler says that the mid load for BT is the max load for the E-Tips.

Reports at the Nosler Forum suggests that these bullets shoot well far off the lands (.100 is commonly recommended). I called Nosler and they suggest that they be seated at 050 off the lands (I wrote no closer than .050 in my notes, but this may be a writing mistake). In any case, they "like" to be seated deep.

My experience reloading I have found that some barrels dont like some kinds of loads or the paticular bullet type. I have reloaded bullets and had the same out come. All i did is stay away from that grain load made by that manufaturer.

Just Got back From a day at the Range, Fired Off all 50 rnds in a few pressure series / Test Loads. 300wm Midrange loads were showing signs of High Pressure. Used 180 E-tips,RL 22, Imr 4350, Imr 4831, WLRM Primers, New Win Full sized Brass, All C.O.A.L. @ 0.05" from the lands. Best 5 shot group was 1.35" with 73.5 grns of RL22,(MAX SAFE LOAD in this rifle) FPS@ 2975, 2984, 2992,3004, 2987. 180 TTSX best 5 shot group was 1.0", fps 3021, 3034,3051,3069, 3142. E-tip Penetration on a steel gong at 200 yrds MV of 3004 fps was cool, copper welded in the gong, Base almost still there. speer 180 btsp 2980fps made a deeper hole, No sign of the bullet. 180 ttsx @ 3027 fps went right through. Were can a guy get some of that Balistic gel? Quit using Phone Books, makes too big a mess.
Will definitly try some more E-tips, and play with the COAL maybe some different primers/powder loads. Try one on a Bear or Buffalo.
Cheers.

Pressure signs can be hard to detect and once you do see them you are already over max. Flatend or cratered primers are a good sign of HP. If you have fire formed brass you can mic the belt, head, and sometime the rim, Before and after firing, In the same spot that is, Anything that shows over, .0001" on the belt or head after each additional firing is sign of High Pressure.

I have no flattened primers or craters forming, I have not measured the case head but feel that my loads are not to hot. I think the large amount of freebore in the Weatherby's is the reason for being able to load them a little hotter.
