Nosler's Reloading Manual #7 is out!

It contains load data for the E-tip, Varmageddon, lead free Ballistic tip, and all 'future' 2013 bullets such as the LRAB.

It contains data for new calibers and new powders.

You can get it from Midway USA and sinclairs.

There's even a place I saw online that sell a PDF digital version of the manual!

I have ordered the book from the US and paid for it.

For those that have done the same and don't feel like waiting, the PDF is available on your favorite torrent tracker: Nosler-RG7-2012.pdf

To those who are considering buying, I ordered mine through Midway USA and the total cost was less than $40. Not bad, considering that's what you would pay for the manual on the shelves of Wholesale Sports here once it's available.

Now, Nosler lists a bunch of its loading data on its website and will provide it free to anyone who emails them so I'm sure this is okay:

If anyone would like any specific data please post here and I will be happy to provide it.

Also, it seems Hornady has a new manual out too.

Hmm...

I've been reviewing the manual carefully.

First, it seems filled with errors.

Second, they lie when they say it has E-tip load data. For example, the 130Gr 270win data lists the E-tip as a bullet used at the top. Oddly, though, every single digit is copied from the 6th edition manual. Not a single thing has changed. So how come the E-tip would go overpressure when using the 6th edition data at max? We were told by Nosler that the middle data was to be used as Max for the E-tip in 6th edition. Yet, the exact same data in the 7th edition is somehow safe as max? I guess they do list a different COAL for the E-tip.... That's about it.

You'll find that for most loads, they disregard powders that were listed in the 6th edition. For example, IMR 4831 (!) is missing in most 270 and 30'06 loads where it was present before. That's a pretty huge omission.

In the 180gr loads for 30'06 the 6th edition manual lists max charge IMR4350 as:

55.0gr 100% capacity 2758fps

The 7th edition manual lists max charge IMR4350 as:

56.5gr 94% capacity 2734fps

Now, I know this is wrong. I've loaded the 6th edition load. I can tell you it's 100%. I can also tell you by chronograph that it's pretty close to published speed.

So how come in the 7th edition, the case takes 1.5 more grains while simultaneously using 6% less case capacity than the smaller charge? That would be a compressed load in the real world. Their velocity is bunk too. I have a feeling this is a misprint or something.

There are others.

It seems that across the board for the 30'06, each type of powder (that isn't missing) lists the max charge as being between 1 and 1.5 gr higher than the 6th edition... And this data is supposed to include E-tip testing? They tested the E-tip and INCREASED the max loads across the boards?

Total Bull:bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:.

I LOVE the 6th edition manual. It's probably my favorite. However, the 7th is a huge disappointment in my opinion :(

Upon doing some more comparing, I note the following:

-6th edition lists brass used in testing simply as 'commercial brass'.

-7th edition lists brass used as NOSLER brass which, purportedly has a higher internal capacity.

This means that the max charge can apparently be larger without being compressed or without reaching max pressure

AND

velocity seems to not be as high with the same charge weight as with standard commercial brass.

This load data seems to be pretty useless for someone who uses common brass and further could be dangerous. It also seems that they flat out ignore the E-tip despite what they claim. I have loaded for the E-tip and I can tell you FOR SURE that it maxes out WELL below the max they list. As Nosler has said previously, use the 6th edition medium charge as max for the e-tip. The max charge the 7th edition manual lists which is even higher than the max in the 6th edition is ridiculous and dangerous for the e-tip.

Further, when comparing load data for 130gr Winchester between books, it seems that they simply copied and pasted. Not a single character is different.

YET

For the 6th edition, e-tip is at max at mid data and 7th ed e-tip is at max at max data?! It's the SAME DATA!

They list the NOSLER brass in the 7th ed with the higher internal volume yet the volume % for each charge doesn't change in the listed loads. It really looks like they didn't bother to re-test in this case at all!

The 7th edition manual lists the max charge for 30'06:

165gr 57.0
180gr 56.5

Does that make any sense whatsoever? Oh, and apparently the 168gr e-tip has the same max pressure as the 165gr ballistic tip...
