Not a good range day with the Vz58's!!!

I never liked the fact the ''compact'' has a modified cut down gas system , i thought it might be prone to some issues .. i bought a carbine because it will take all standard VZ parts . I was just at the IWA show in Germany and stopped by the CSA booth and got some hints that the compact might be discontinued .

Same for me, when I decided to go with the carbine.

They should have built just enough of them as pistols so we could have gotten proper 10 round VZ pistol mags.

Mine has given me no problems at all, and I have 6-700 rnds thru it. Only thing is I get FTE when I shoot/hold it like a pistol (one handed). LOVE that little bastard!!!!!!

It could have just been one shotty gas piston, I am sure the replacment will be GTG.

Did they have any input on why it may have happened or if you need to watch the replacement for the same thing?

Nope, no input, but they do want the broken piston to examine. Hopefully it was a faulty piston, not some slight misalignment in the gun that caused the problem. Time will tell....

Latest update: I've been back and forth via email with North Silva; they've been very easy to deal with. My replacement piston and a spare are on their way, no charge. Took them a while, as they didn't have spares in stock, but they came through without any hassle.

I asked them whether or not their people had any thoughts on why the original piston failed, and received the following response:

Your piston is one of three that is being tested in Czech Republic right now at CSA's metallurgy lab.

Serial numbers 17, 24 and 25 of the compacts all broke in the same way, so we're going to figure out why.
