Looking for a shotty for IPSC Standard Manual (limited 3-gun use for another year or so). I was thinking about the usual suspects and slightly leaning towards the Mossy but then a more experienced buddy who just emigrated to a country with a limited gun market is kicking himself in the arse for getting an 870 instead of a Black Shadow. How does it compare with the usual suspects 500/870 when it comes to IPSC use? How do you guys have it set up? Any advice is appreciated as I have zero shotgun experience.

I am very impressed with my Winchester SXP. It is just a standard field model, but I will be buying the Tactical version in the near future.

The speed pump feature takes some getting used to but once you get it it is fast, and the action is very slick with some use. Fit and finish is much better than anything else in the same price range as well.

I have the COMBO (2) barrells could not be more delighted..

So far it looks like it's highly recommended over the usual suspects.. What barrel length do you go with? 28? I am assuming a mag tube extension to be able to load up 9 shells? Anything else?

Benelli M2 with 26" barrel and big mag extension would work great since no mag restrictions here. Would need to remove extension when visiting Canada.

Looking for a manual since I don't wanna be running against Saigas. Currently on the fence between the Black Shadow, a 590A1 and a Super Nova. The Black Shadow would save me a nice chunk of change over the other 2 options if it loads quickly, handles nicely, doesn't kick too much and feeds reliably.

With my SXP Defender I can get the second shot off on skeet doubles (the hitting or missing is my fault) . Not sure about 870s or 500s, but it certainly is a fast action and after about 500 rds of various loads , slugs,00 and target I haven't had any issues that werent operator fault.

Thanks for the heads up.. How does it stack up when it comes to fast loading?

Downsides to the 590 - Heavy barrel, and it is damned heavy!

Downside to the Supernova - One piece action/stock. No changing your mind, or repairs in the future.

Downside to the Winchester - Lack of aftermarket when compared to the others.

Some things to consider...

Looks like it might be an issue locating a mag extension for Black Shadow, and that would be a dealbreaker. Too bad.. Promising gun otherwise. Any thoughts on regular vs pistol grip stock on the Supernova? I can only source pistol grip in 18.5". What kinda mag extension could I get away with with that barrel length? I will attend some 3gun events while I can still shoot semiauto rifles and iirc it can affect my classification with some.

It loads easier now, the elevator moves slicker than when it was new, and I don't get my gloves caught any more. I haven't tried "speed loading" like you would in a match, but maybe file a bit off the front of the lifter and your fingers wouldn't get caught as easily. As stated tho, parts are still lacking, but a tube extension wouldn't be hard to make.

And look what I found... ht tp://www.tacstar.com/home/magazine-extensions-02.php Highly tempted now but will have to handle one first :D

Edit: Thanks for the heads up "s" :)

Thanks for the offer, I'd love that.. Where do you shoot? My main club is BRRC and I occasionally show up at Colby (when I can because the guys there are great but the drive is terrible, especially getting through to Milton).

PM received, much appreciated and replied. Gotta clear with the rifle league director but we might be able to arrange something on Wednesday.

I got to handle one of these puppies tonight. Love the way she handles and points, plus the action felt smooth and solid (Super Nova felt wobbly in comparison). Also made the mistake of handling an M2... Fell in love with it but a weeebit too rich for my blood. Unless 930's DAMN close, no Standard for me.
