Recently acquired a SxS hammergun with only a cross bolt lock up. Only ID is "Model 250" on the trigger guard, which does full length of the action belly. Anyone out there know the Maker / Distributor. Thanks in advance --- John303.

That isn't much to go on. Any chance of a photo?
Is it a boxlock, no separate lockplates, hammers are mounted on the frame? If so, it might be a Stevens.

Not making it up at all, it is a side lock, no other marks on the gun anywhere - oh well another riddle to resolve. --- John303.

John, there are marks on the gun which some people here can decipher, you're just not looking in the right place.

Pictures are helpful.

Grouse Man - I have completely dismantled this shotgun and there are no marks, proofs, gauge marks anywhere. None on the action, locks, barrel etc. etc., I suspect it is American simply due to the lack of marks. I am fairly familiar with proof marks etc but one can't decipher whats not there. I was hoping someone might have a similiar gun, it is rather well made (polished) smooth) inside and out. Sorry no pics at present. --- John303.

That really is a puzzle then, without proof marks. Could it have been badly rusted and then the rust and proof marks sanded/filed/polished off? Pictures are your only hope.

GMan & Others; Just to add, that hidden cross bolt turned out to be a rotary bolt that turns and locks the gun through the rib extension. Decided to explore the net looking at the different American makers - I think I hit pay dirt. I found that L.C. Smith produced a hammer gun using an "Alexander Brown rotary bolt" it sure looks like the mechanism used in my gun. Odd no name but maybe a knock off of sorts. --- John303.
