I use these bullets primarily for muzzleloading in a sabotless application. They will work in 45/70 also.

I got a new set of forming dies , It'll be used to reform and size to .458 diameter to work with my Full Forming die.
I reformed 300 gr. XTP's and bumped them up from .452 to .458 diameter. It'll do everything but solid coppers.

Very impressed and they look quite nice. May I ask why anyone, shooting either a muzzle stuffer or a 45-70 would use jacketed slugs when cast shoot so well? Not trying to rain on your parade (you've done a very nice job of it) just curious. I've noticed several people looking for load data ( etc ) using jackets in the 45-70's and the like but to me it doesn't make sense. (Don't jump on me with nasty comments, I'm impressed with what has been done. Just curious.)

I don't know about the 45/70 crowd but cast bullets won't handle the speeds I've been using these at. When I was shooting them anything over 2100 fps suffered.

OK, I understand that. My experience with a 450 MARLIN is with velocities about 1800 fps. When I've loaded 405 gr slugs close to max the recoil is NASTY. I'm impressed with your increasing the diameter and nose configuration. Where do you shoot your muzzle stuffers?

interesting..

I've been thinking of resizing some .311" 110grn XTP down to .308" for my M1 carbine. I might need 2 steps, step it down to less then .308" then swage it back up to "308 and round the nose a little more.

but this thread has me thinking that I could just use the .311" to make .321" bullets for my mini Martini in 310 Cadet.

time to get the metal lathe turning....
