Not so free "free shipping" from the site sponsors

This seems to happen all the time for these big sales (Black Friday, Xmas, etc...). The site sponsors offer free shipping on cases of ammo, with one exception, that free shipping doesn't include those folks in the arctic. Now I can understand that shipping dangerous goods by a truck is obviously cheaper and easier than by a plane to us in fly-in only communities. However, the dealers are accepting the premise of having to absorb the shipping costs when they offer free shipping. Couldn't these sponsors then just deduct an average shipping cost for shipping to us northerners? I've inquired in the past about shipping ammo to me (in Nunavut) during one of these sales and was told that I'd have to pay full price for the shipping. Seems a bit unfair that they won't at least offer to absorb part of the costs, like the amount that it would cost them on average to ship to someone by truck.

This has been on my mind a lot over the past few weeks with black friday having just recently past and Xmas in a week.

I understand the costs of shipping to remote communities (I have family in some and sending even a small box up costs upwards of 60$), however that is a valid point. It would make sense to say deduct the cost of shipping to a average location (which is about 40$ for a crate generally) and have you pay the rest. That being said it is there offer, and they can place the limitations of it as they choose.

I totally get that it's dealer's discretion. It's just that up here next to Santa (in this community anyway), I'm limited to sh*t box Winchester Super X ammo. It's ok, but it's far from any precision or match type stuff. I see all of these free shipping sales and I long to get some better stuff. It's not like I can walk into a Cabela's or some other LGS, we have 2 general type stores here and they have nothing but the basics.

Like any other of Santa's elves, learn to plan ahead, stockpile at a port and ship on the annual barge. Assuming you are served by a barge. Else, suck it up, do one humungous DG shipment a year, and have fun.

Or bring it back with you when you fly home from a trip. You are allowed 10kg I believe...
Canada ammo will likely ship to you free. I haven't had a problem here

Ice Road is likely a better bet for shipping heavy hazmat like ammo

But here's an idea: Take up reloading, that way you are shipping heavy non-hazmat stuff (projectiles) and little lightweight hazmat stuff (powder and primers) and save your brass

Yeah I I hear you op. I just spent the better part of 3 years in Northern Yukon. And I can say from all the research and deals made by myself and neighbors.. Canada ammo came through every time. It takes a bit longer than urban.. but the free shipping was ALWAYS free shipping.
Also.. I took a hit on the ee.. shipping from the north.. and likewise when the seller agreed to a shipped included price.
I will also mention Wolverine supplies and AL Flahertys both honored a set shipping price multiple times. Even though the north costs more.. some of the sponsors still hook it up. After a few years there.. I have completely updated my go to list of retailers.
Just call around op. The stand up sponsors will hook you up. Don't get me started on a non sponsor that rhymes with kabelas shipping to the north.

I am fully aware of how little is available, which is why I said it makes sense for them to deduct the amount they would be willing to pay for it to be shipped anywhere else. Personally I wouldn't expect a dealer to eat all the shipping costs to the North, there would just be no profit left in it for them. As you mentioned though if they are prepared to eat some of the cost already for shipping to a cheaper area (say 40$ a crate) than it is reasonable they give you a discount for that amount.
