Hey quick question, I was wondering, if you are shooting at 100 yrds for example and aren't square to the target will this effect your sighted in accuracy. Example: I was shooting at a target and I was positioned about 50 yards to the right of it (and still 100yrds out) and I was way off mark. After I re-sighted in, I was curious to know if I was off because of not being square to the target or if someone had accidentally touched my turret.. I hope this dosent sound dumb...

If you are sighted in for 100 yards and you are 50 yards off to the side of the target that is at the 100 yard line, then you are shooting at further than 100 yards. Also, if you are not perpendicular to the face of the target, you are going to amplify any left right errors as the target face will present a narrower appearance.

Well, as far as I can figure, there's two things that *might* affect you. First, if the target is 100 yards from the firing line, but you're 50 yards along the line, then you are in fact almost 112 yards from your target. How flat is your trajectory at 100 yards? Second, if the target's not square to your line of shooting, you'll get a bigger-looking group side-to-side because the pattern is "stretched" across the angled target. But being 50 yards down the line is pretty extreme. If you're a few dozen feet over, the effects would be minimal.

Guys, this is being over thought through. He just stated that he was 50 yds right of a target that is still 100 yds away. He may not be shooting on a firing line so it is not some obscure trig question - so the answer still remains "NO". Geeeez.
