Each to his OWN, but the significance of a backup rifle , it means that both are the same caliber, and I am Sure that there are lot of Dummy's out there , myself Included that have more then one Rifle in the same Caliber.

I currently own 22 rifles chambered in 303 British, all different versions. Multiple Garands in 30-06. Decisions are made. Apparently OP doesn’t know what he wants. If he doesn’t want to keep both he has to sit down and make a decision. If going a different caliber it may actually be cheaper to sell one rifle and buy a new rifle.
Multiple 45-70’s. I could keep going on one’s I have multiples of.

I have a half-dozen .308-chambered rifles myself, despite not being a huge fan of the cartridge...even more duplication when I get to cartridges that I really like...such as, yes, the .45-70.

The OP presented the idea of owning a couple of .308's as strange and hard to justify, so I thought I'd have a little fun.

But, honestly, if this rifle is looked upon as an essential post-apocalypse tool, I think an SKS or Mini14 or something similar puts any fat overweight .308 range toy to shame.

For scopes, look at the Arken SH4 and EP5. They both get good reviews.

Athlon has various budget lines like Vortex does.

Ordered this for my tikka. My Bergara will get my Nikon monarch 4-16x40 which is a nice light hunting scope

Tikka’s a good platform for a custom build. That’s what I’d do.

I have a tikka t3x ctr special edition from cabela’s with some nice upgrades like Teflon bolt, set trigger, muzzle brake etc, it is chambered in 308

I just ordered a Bergara Premier Canyon and now I don’t really see any point in keeping my tikka?

The Bergara will be superior for hunting AND long distance shooting… the only benefit the tikka has over the Bergara is the 10-round mag.

Sell the tikka ctr or keep it for something else? Maybe tactical shooting? I’d prefer not to sell a gun if I can find a use for it

I plan on hunting with my Bergara as well as shooting at 1000+ meters.

Never count your chickens until they're hatched...or in this case until you have proven that new Bergara on target.
CTR's are no slouch in the accuracy dept.
