Opening day of white-tail season and have to say Iam kind of bummed out.
-Found a pile of 4 mule deer does that were piled in the ditch of a major grid road left to rot
-Seen a truck before first light already have antlers in the back and heading to town
-found out two of my hunting on foot areas have been posted NO Hunting and was led to believe they were paid by some locals to provide private hunting land
-Went to grab some written permission from another farmer and seen his land is NO Hunting. Couldn't blame him. twice last week his cows were let out by hunters cutting the fence. he even had a gate padlocked with a chain and the chain was on the ground and the padlock missing. Slight good news is he is still letting us on cause he knows we are some of the good ones that walk and respect landowners but he is fed up and I don't blame him.
-Decided to try some wild life lands that are hunting on foot only and seen drive marks all around the trees and one truck sitting on the hill with guys glassing
-went to talk to a new farmer to try and get permission. Said he doesnt hate hunters but he had two cows shot last year and he is not that happy, but admitted that it's a few bad apples that ruin it for the majority.
-pulled onto the top of a hill to glass and just take a break crested the hill to see a pile of someones lunch garbage
-Stopped to talk to a friend and he told me he has had to put his gate back up twice already that day (it's posted with cows right there visable) He seen one guy drive out but couldn't get a plate.
-We are starting to get a wild elk herd in the area and I have seen them twice sadly the biggest two bulls were on the limp bad. (one was a hudge wide 6x7 with long ivory tips) I can't guarantee it but the one Iam sure was a back leg gun wound. Talking with the local farmer the game wardens were down to investigate three bulls with the heads missing last winter.
Hufffff
Sad thing is I think in my venting anger post I actually missed a few things.
Some good news is we seen one nice buck chasing a dow and another imature deer trying to chase a doe. If the weather cools off like it's suppose to I predict another successfull year on the little bit of land we still have permission on.
We lost our local game warden posting about 6 years ago and it has been a steady decline in ethics ever since.
