Hey...can you tell me hwy the 2 different hammer styles and what kind of BCG the notched one is designed for.

Thanks in advance

Notched hammers were originally designed to hang up on the carrier/ firing pin during cycling if someone messed with the disconnector. This made it harder to convert an AR15 to fire fully automatic. The bolt carriers used in conjunction with notched hammers were the ones with the exposed firing pins. (unshrouded carrier)

I would simply go with an auto hammer or the non-notched semi-auto. I've had issues mixing and matching bolt groups with the notched hammers.

One set up, would get caught when trying to pivot the upper and lower closed and required that the hammer be in the cocked position to smoothly close the receivers. Annoying.

Here's a good link that shows all the different hammer profiles: http://www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/hammers/

Another small thing in the notched vs not (not sure if it matters to you)...

2 different .22 conversions (one full upper and on just conversion BCG) I have run both had issues with notched hammers. Of course, YMMV.

Thanks.....I have 2 different Norinco lowers and one has a notched hammer and the other doesn't. When I mated the one with the notched hammer with a new mix 'n match rifle length upper I built the BCG was hanging on the hammer.

Guess I will be looking for a new hammer. Thanks for the feedback guys....

Looking at pictures of the LMT and RRA SA BCG I noticed that they both have shrouded firing pins making a notched hammer useless. Does any manufacturer even make an unshrouded BCG anymore

Not to my knowledge. Bushmaster and Colt have stopped making them as far as I know.
