No wonder lead is getting expensive commercially...The French just competed a 3 yr roof repair after the fire, 43000 sq ft, one full acre, of lead sheeting was used.
Not sure what that would weigh but I had a roll of roofing lead given to me that was aprox 24 inches wide & 20 ft long and I got about 200 lbs of ingots out of it.
 
I have read long ago that the Romanian monastery "Plumbuita" (meaning leaded) had lead shingles on the roof.
In the 1600s that lead was cast into projectiles to repeal some attackers.
 
On a visit to Quebec i would look at the roof of a cathedral and wonder when I could replace it with aluminium or steel....
