I have just been told by an unreliable source that lead shot is now banned for all hunting in Nova Scotia? Is this true?

From page 85 of what you just gave me. The part in red is what concerns me.

"No person shall possess or use shot other than non-toxic shot for the purpose of hunting waterfowl or snipe. Within National Wildlife Areas it is an offence to possess shot other than non-toxic shot, and therefore you must use non-toxic shot for all hunting."

That is specific to waterfowl and snipe which are under the Migratory game act. That international act calls for non-lead shot only. You can still use lead for game not covered by the migritory game act if I am not mistaken. Someone chime in if I'm wrong, after all my wife tells me I am....oh wait....

quite obvious none toxic shot for water fowl, AND within National wild life areas
tHEREFORE YOU MUST USE NON TOXIC SHOT FOR ALL all hunting

FWIW there is no mention of the words "lead" or "non-toxic" anywhere in the Nova Scotia Wildlife Act, Nova Scotia General Wilflife Regulations, Nova Scotia Firearm and Bow Regulations, Nova Scotia Small Game Hunting Regulations or the Nova Scotia Pheasant Shooting Preserve Regulations.

The Federal Migratory Birds Regulations s. 15.1 states:

15.1 (1) Subject to subsection (2), no person shall

(a) possess, for the purpose of hunting a migratory game bird, except a woodcock, band-tailed pigeon or mourning dove, shot other than non-toxic shot; or

(b) hunt a migratory game bird, except a woodcock, band-tailed pigeon or mourning dove, by the use of shot other than non-toxic shot.

(2) The exceptions of woodcock, band-tailed pigeon and mourning dove set out in subsection (1) do not apply in

(a) any area in which the use of non-toxic shot is required under Schedule I when hunting those species; and

(b) the wildlife areas set out in Schedule I to the Wildlife Area Regulations.

What gets me is that snipe require non toxic shot due to international treaties, yet in the USA they are allowed to use lead shot for snipe.

There is an org in NS that will exchange your lead ammo for "non-toxic" ammo for free, yes, free.

Yep walk in with a small part of your stash like 20 boxes or so and they tell you it is just one box per individual
What a joke. I'd bet the farm most of us have more ammo as individuals than they have for the entire province
