Does anyone have any information re the NSM? I recently acquired a Brown Bess with great markings on the butt. " NSM Halifax E 8 Batt No 39"

I am having trouble finding out more information re the markings

Well if its from Halifax only Militia unit would have been the PLF..
Intrested to learn more.

You sure that isn't 78 rather than E 8?
The 78th highland Regiment is responsible for Citadel Hill. but in truth that marking rings no bells with me, sorry.

* I see there was the 8th Foot....
