First of all, my thanks to the folks in BC and Ontario who helped get us to this point.(Longshot,dink27,Andrew)

Service Rifle (A) Start-up Clinic, 23/24 July 2016

This year will see NSRA trial a dynamic and fun form of Service Condition shooting – Service Rifle A(Action). This type of shooting has proven very popular in other parts of Canada and we are introducing SR(A) in Nova Scotia to gauge the response from our shooters. SR(A) is a dynamic, fast paced, style of Service Conditions shooting that involves shooting Service Rifles/Carbines and Service Pistols at relatively close range. Targets are anywhere from 50M to as close as 5m with multiple shooting positions being used and transitions to pistol. Snap and rapid matches add to the dynamic nature of these Courses Of Fire. Make no mistake – it is a challenging form of shooting that promotes marksmanship and firearms handling. The type of matches in the SR(A) program are similar to those currently being shot by military and police members as part of their Skill-at-Arms training.
On the weekend of July 23 and 24, NSRA is hosting an Open (non NSRA members who are members in good standing of another Provincial Gun Club are welcome) SR(A) clinic at Bull Meadow Range. The matches we will be preparing for (and firing) are from the BC Rifle Association program. The focus of the weekend will be to introduce this style of shooting, and have a relaxing – fun - weekend of Service Conditions shooting. Throughout the weekend there will be a strong instructional emphasis on safety, SR(A) range procedures, shooting equipment set-up; and of course – introducing the new matches. Day 1 is being setup as an introduction/training/match familiarization day, and we will fire the matches through on Day 2. Shooting on Day 2 requires full participation on the Day 1; so you can attend on Day 1 and not shoot Day 2, but not the reverse.
To the best of our knowledge this is one of the first times this style of shooting has been conducted in Nova Scotia – in a civilian context – so we are all “new” to the activity. If you think this is the type of shooting you’d like to get involved with, we would welcome seeing you on the weekend of 23/24 July, and here’s what you would need to bring:
· A great attitude(No Whining) and an appetite to try something new (essential)
· Eye protection (mandatory)
· Hearing protection (mandatory)
· Any centrefire calibre Service Rifle or Carbine, with
o Approx. 200 rounds of ammunition
o 5 detachable box magazines
o simple single point sling
· Any centrefire semiautomatic pistol, with
o Approx. 50 rounds of ammunition
o 2 detachable box magazines
o holster
· Belt or webbing to hold 4 rifle/carbine magazines and 2 pistol magazines

If you are short a piece of kit or two – don’t let it hold you back - we will do our best to scrounge up the extra kit needed to get you through the weekend.
If you’d like to receive more information on this fast-paced, dynamic form of shooting you need to send an-email as soon as practicable to: nsraserviceconditions@gmail.com. You will receive additional information on the planned activities in the coming weeks.
Please note:
· Preregistration at least a week before the clinic is mandatory, “walk-on” traffic on the day will not be entertained.
· Additional information will be sent to only those who have expressed an interest – via e-mail - in the weekend clinic.
· There will be a $20 charge for NSRA Members for this event. This will be an Open event with $30 charged to non NSRA members. Five dollars of this charge will go towards the required chamber safety flag. For safety purposes all participants must use this designated flag.
· This is a Rain or Shine event and we will be proceeding regardless of the weather….. after all it is Service Condition shooting!
Hope to see you on the range.
