The 2016 Service Conditions schedule is now posted on the NSRA website. (h ttp://www.nsrifle.org/service.htm). Last years level of competition remained very high: there is no doubt that NS has some of the finest shooters in Canada, including a couple of Queen's Medal Winners. However on a number of occasions folks have indicated that they would like to start shooting Service and Precision Rifle but are somewhat intimidated by the notion of coming out, as someone new to the discipline and going head to head with folks shooting at that level. Notwithstanding the traditional willingness of section members to help new folks out, matches are perhaps not the best time for this to take place.
Well, this is your lucky year!!!
The schedule has been changed for this year. We will be running both Service and Precision Rifle practices on alternating Tuesday evenings, commencing the end of May. The format of these practices will be firstly confirming zeros at the given distance on the type of targets used in matches and then running practice matches at that distance each session. This will allow individuals to sort out their equipment, get their zeros and then become familiar and experienced with the matches we shoot in competition. While all are welcome, these will not be general shooting sessions but rather will focus on preparing for competition.
For this year on a trial basis, we will be introducing a second class for service rifle. Essentially we will keep the main class(CLASSIC/for want of a better catchy name) as described on the NSRA website, however in addition we will be introducing an open class where modifications not allowed in the classic class will be acceptable. Rifles, must be safe and the Service Conditions Chairman will reserve the right to reject individual rifles if they are deemed unsafe. This should allow new shooters with rifles that do not necessarily meet the current description for Service Rifle to come out and shoot some matches. Medals will be considered for the new open class if there is sufficient participation.
In addition you will note on the schedule the weekend 24/25 July is reserved for a tentative Service Rifle clinic. The exact details of the clinic are yet to be finalized but we’ll get those details out once the concept for the weekend is better defined.
If you have always wanted to try this challenging discipline or know someone that may wish to shoot Service Conditions, then these practices should be the perfect opportunity to get your feet wet and unlike at the actual matches, there will be ample time for one-on-one assistance and mentoring..
Non NSRA members may attend two practices as guests, after which the will be required to join the NSRA if they wish to continue on.
Any questions please email the Section Chairman at nsraserviceconditions@gmail.com
Remember bring an open mind and a good 100m zero for your rifle,
Be Safe
Have Fun
No whining
