I'm a Dalhousie student and I'd like to start shooting skeet as a way to practice for bird hunting. I'm a member of the AVSSC and I tried it out with my father last weekend, my results were poor haha. I won't say how poorly I did but I know I need to learn the proper way to do it!

Sundays are the best days for me to go out and I'd be willing to travel anywhere within an hour or so of Halifax with coach in tow just to practice. I shoot a Baikal MP-153 and I'm looking to go after some upland game this fall.

Thanks!

Greetings Alumni:

Check and see if the Dalhousie ruffed grouse society is still operating. Hard to believe but not too many years ago we spent Student union money on hunting activities.. pine..

Your in a good spot for upland game go visit your friends at Acadia and shoot pheasant on the dykes. Walking distance to the timmies.

Don't waste you time/money on clays/trap. Get out and enjoy hunting and exploring. You have all spring, summer, winter to whack orange clay.

Thanks for the advice David! I searched the DSU societies website and the Ruffed Grouse Society is no more. That gave me an idea though... I know a couple of guys that go to dal that are into upland game. Perhaps its time to start one up? My roommate and I are getting into IPSC but somehow I can't see Dal ratifying a society dedicated to handgun shooting haha. U

Unfortunately for me I don't know anyone in the valley that hunts...

I am not surprised that the ruff grouse society is no more. To be honest I don't know much about it other then it existed.

I 'd encourage you to try and form a " Gallinacious and Migratory Bird conservation society"

I Can easily see how a Dalhousie student who was planning on traveling around the province could help contribute to a bunch of diffrent conservation efforts. Heck make em up i.e spring drumming bird counts, pamphlets, etc.

Might also want to try and maybe piggy back with Ducks Unlimited or another sportsman funded ENGO.

I would be happy to write a letter complete with proffessional designation in support of your efforts.

Operating such a society would be a fantastic networking opportunity and would contribute to your education. Plus you'd end up on some pretty fun Pheasant hunts!
