I received my replacement Pat1907 from Collector's Source. Fred was very apologetic for having sent a bayonet with a curved blade and shipped out a new one stat. The new one is in great condition and straight as an arrow. The markings aren't all there, which I specified as unimportant:

"...A"
"...07"
"1"
"6 43"
With "SLAZ 56" on both sides of the grip. At the back by the release button, tis "D 71158".

australian bayonet.

Should be:

"OA" (or less commonly "MA")
1907
The "1" is probably a partially struck "X"
"6 43" indicates June 1943 manufacture.
SLAZ56 means the bayonet was refurbished and got new wood grips made by Slazenger in 1956, the last year of SMLE production in Australia.

The "D 71158" was probably put on at the unit level. It's likely the serial number of the gun the bayonet was mated to in the field in 1943.

Walther P38, ac42 type 2, all matching + one magazine. Took a long time to find WWII vintage P38 on my budget.

well worth the wait my friend, nice pistol, sold mine about 4-5 years ago and now i can't find one even close the condition it was in without paying twice what i sold it for.

Thanks guys.

The store had a near mint Walther P1, 1980 vintage (no rebuilds) for $450 sitting right beside it. At $350 for the vintage P38, I don't think they understand the market on these guns. They seem to go for even more in the USA.

I can't wait to get down to the range and try it out but I want to replace the recoil springs first and clean/inspect under the slide cover.

Now you need the spare mag and either a hard or softshell holster. Don't settle for a repro! Real softshells (1944-1945 vintage) can be had in the $80-90 range these days, in nice shape, if you look around ;)

Well, if you see a WWII holster or WaA359 P38 magazine remember to drop Mausermike a note! There was a little cleaning kit that went into the holster too, wasn't there?

WW2 holsters are all over the place. Try w w w .p38forum.com - they actually have a holsters forum!

On a 42, that gun could just as easily have left the factory with a "jvd" sub-contracted mag as an E359 Walther one.

And no, there is no cleaning kit on the M38 holster. Probably you are thinking of the magazine/takedown tool in the P08 Luger hardshell holster.

The P38 was cleaned using the standard K98k cleaning kit. the only real "accessory" you sometimes see is a legit ww2 era lanyard. Expect to pay over $250 for one (!) IF you can find one. A few came out of Norway a few years back and all sold in one day at that price.

Picked up an all matching Winchester P-14 from a board member, got here today:

Winchesterp142.JPG

All matching, sharp and shiny bore, volley sights intact, the stock and disk has a '960' stamped on it. It also came with an H&R leather sling, stamped 1918.

This baby is a keeper. :D

I also noticed some odd stampings on the barrel that don't appear on my Remington or Eddystone. There is a clover-leaf shaped stamp, and a 'second' serial number on the barrel, except it is only an 'S' followed by four digits. It doesn't appear to be another rifle serial number, and nothing is struck out.

Any ideas?

It appears as if villagephotos is temporarily down... pics back later, I guess.

WWII P-38 & Holster

It's a Spreewerke P38 CYQ Code Pistol Have not yet determined the year of production. 41-43?? Anyway it's a nice unit and with the byq 44 holster waffenampt stamped it makes a nice collectable for my German display.

WOW! You got it for a STEAL... Sucks to be the seller who did not know the value of a WWII era P-38, especially an AC, which are only the most sought after for best fit and finish.

I am going to have to live with my Spreewerke.:)

What is the suffix behind the serial number? Nice rig!!

The serial number is 69xx. so the normal four digits, and the suffix letter is an x. That letter x is spaced away from the four numbers about 1/2". It does not appear to be a BIG Russian capture X, but a nice clearly stamped letter x that is the same size as the numbers. I did some research on the net and found out that apparently Spreewerke did not put a year on the slide like Walther and Mauser did. I think the only way to tell the year is by that suffix letter after the four digit serial number. I found a CYQ with a Y suffix, so did they make it to the x'es??

You are correct, they did not put year of manufacture on the slide. Yours was manufactured in occupied Czechoslovakia approximately December of 1944. I have a z series. Yours does not seem at all to be a Russian capture. The x is the suffix of the serial number. Congrats again!! I love Spreewerkes!

That's a nice cyq rig. I've yet to find a holster and spare mag for mine.

There's lots of variations in the late war guns. Do you have the stamped trigger guard and slide lock? There's also a different hammer style that is seen.

I finished mine off today. I bought the Wolf Gunsprings #2 kit for the P38, replaced mag, recoil, hammer, extractor and 3 other springs internally. I'm glad I removed the extractor because there was a big chunk of fouling on it, and all sorts of gunk inside the extractor spring hole. Lots of gunk under the slide cover as well. I disassembled everything in there and gave it all a good cleaning.
