Now that conservatives are in power

Nope. The AR is restricted by name and all variants are included.

Unless you believe that the CPC are actually going to do something regarding our insane firearms laws beyond eliminate the non-restricted registry. Myself, I am not counting on much.

Most likely not as they appear to be restricted due to look.Others have come out with similar looking weapons with completely different operating systems that have still been classed as variants due to how they look and ,I'm guessing here, the mags they use.

Perhaps we should of just let the liberals win and sink the country already, better to just get it over with as oppose to delaying the inevitable...

Where did I say I was giving up? Last election I donated money to the CPC and my local candidate and volunteered for him as well. All to get a greater voice when I have concerns. But I am also a realist and can see the writing on the wall regarding any other changes to the firearms act.

There are a few rifles that are AR15ish and are non restricted as well.

XCR
JR carbine
AR180b

If I'm missing any please chime in...

As for the conservatives making AR15's non restricted I think they have a few issues to tackle before they can get to that... LGR being the first.... I think " slow and steady wins the race" might be the best approach...

The only way to achieve this is to have Canadian firearm law re-written to get rid of firearm 'classifications'... Write your Member of Parliament, the Minister of Public Safety Vic Toews and the Prime Minister & tell them that what Canadians want is reasonable gun law... What is this? IMHO, licensing & training to get that license, and safe storage of firearms when not in use... That's it!

A firearm is either a rifle, a shotgun or a handgun. Barrel lengths, action etc are all symantics... All these rules only serve the anti-gunner agenda as one step towards their goal of removing firearms from the hands of all civilians!

Hmmm...yet another thread on now that the Conservatives are in as a Majority Gov't....

Pretty much all the Conservatives promised to do as far as guns go, is get rid of all long gun registry. That is it.

All these fantasy posts about re-classifications, de-prohibit, concealed carry permits, bush carry permits, return to full capacity magazines and on and on are a going no where. None of the current gun laws affecting these areas are going to be ammended or repealed. Get over it.

Be thankful IF the long gun registry is in fact dismantled as promised. IF that happens, maybe then other areas of the firearms legislation in Canada could be looked at, but don't bet on it.

Don't be such a "negative Nancy" these threads give people hope and a drive for change. Without that we will never progress anywhere.

False hope is worse than no hope. There is no hope that the CPC are going to tear down C-68 and kill all the OIC's that restricted and prohibited firearms by name. Zero. Only a tiny handful of CPC MP's have any clue that far more than just the LGR is wrong with the firearms act.

If we want things to change, we need to make the CPC know we want change and we must do it with big enough numbers of voters to make them think it is worth it. So, instead of wishing for change, write your MP, join CSSA and NFA and get in the political fight to roll our firearms laws back to something reasonable. I figure that is around 1930 or so, myself.

Note that the CPC are NOT our friends. At best they are firearms neutral. They are also NOT anything close to libertarian or pro-individual rights. We must watch them as closely as we watched the Libs and make sure they don't put one foot over the line. All politicians are simply looking to get re-elected and hold power for as long as possible. At the moment, gun owners are a significant support group for them and they are at least willing to listen to our concerns. If we lose that position they will throw us under the bus in a second. Which means that we can't lose that position. That takes getting involved in the party, volunteering, donating and being heard.

Jay is right. Whatever we do not get fixed in the next four years is not going to be fixed, ever. Do not let the Conservatives drift, hammer your local MP with written letters -- NOT Email -- and send copies to Vic Toews and the Prime Minister's Office.

My own preference is for an easily obtained licence to buy, own, transport, and shoot ANY firearm plus a difficult licence for concealed carry. The "easy" and "difficult" refer only to the training required, not to some method for the police to arbitrarily say "no". No registration of any firearms must be tolerated -- we haven't ever had an out-and-out dictatorship in this country but we came close 180 years ago in Upper Canada. If we are permanently unarmed, our luck WILL run out.
:HR:

Remember, the Liberals will be back. The PCs won only two seats after Lyin' Brian Mulrooney retired; the Libs are nowhere near that far down. What happens to the Conservative majority when the "Liberal Democratic Party" runs against it?
