Howdy
Well finally broke in my 7x57 using nozler 150 gr balistic tip with 41 grs IMR 4320 powder. 2600 fps. This load and bullet gives me 5/8 " groups 100yrds.

Picked up a nice little 4x3 mule on a quartering away shot on the run at about 125 yds. Bullet came out rt side of the neck. Was amazed at the damage it had done it had gone in just under the spine shattering it.

This was the first animal shot with my 7x57 and was impressed. Normally use my 35 whelen imp but had changed scopes and was not sighted in.

I was using my new Shepherd 3x10 on the 7x57 and was very pmpressed with it.

Anyone else out there had any experience with the Nozler balistic tips and how did they work for you??

Cheers

Derrick
Will post pic of the bullet once I figure on how to do it again

I have killed over two dozen head of deer, pronghorn and bighorn with the 140gr ballistic tip out of my 7mmstws.Not one of those animals made it 50 yards after being hit,and most dropped on the spot or within a few steps.I use lungshots so meat damage is not much of an issue.

Haven't used them in my 7 Mauser, but used the 150gr in my 06 for Antelope.

The bullet went the length of him with amazing destruction, not unlike he was hit with a howitzer. This was at 422 yards. Bang-flop.
They shoot very very well, but only on full broadside lung shots as mentioned.
I still have the bullet, the core did separate but was right with the jacket.

Nosler BT

The Nosler BT might be the best bullet (non match) made They are what I use to work up a load, but I load the partitions to hunt with, for everything.
The BT are not great in the heavy cover and not the best if you drive them over 3000fps which I do in a wsm

I've used the 140gr and 150gr in my 280AI on bear, deer, wolf, and paper... and in my opinion, they are best reserved for the latter!

I shot a deer at 165 yards once with a 150 gr nosler bt out of my 7mm rem mag, exited after breaking the spine, broadside

Stubblejumper you are really smoking along those nosler BT, mine at 3250 just don't do the job on big game, yours with Partitions would be devestating
not try to start a flame. just what I have found, but if it works for you stick with them

Ask Stubblejumper what bullet he is shooting this year in most of his rifles... I bet it doesn't contain lead:dancingbanana:

You are making an assumption that is not totally correct.I am now using the tsx in my 300ultramags for moose elk and bear hunting. However ,I am still using the ballistic tip in my 7mmstws for deer, pronghorn and bighorn. For coyotes and varmints,I am using the v-max in my 22-250.So in fact I have only gone no lead in two rifles.

I've used the 165 BT on a couple of deer out of my .30-06. I've also seen one used on deer out of a couple of .308s. The damage inflicted to the animal, on a solid hit, was incredible.

I still believe that this is an excellent deer bullet in rifles of the .308, 7x57, .30-06 level, but you have to be careful about shot presentation. If everything it perfect, the results will be spectacular. Just remember that everything is not always perfect.

These days, I've switched to the 168 TSX out of my .30-06. The accuracy level is comparable (and that's saying a lot). I've jacked up the velocity because I'm using Vihtavuori N560 and cracking the 3,000 fps barrier with my Remington 700 Mountain rifle. That's another reason I'd be concerned about the integrity of the Ballistic Tip at such a high velocity on a close-range hit. I also want to have one load to use for everything. I'm a firm believer that you should just rely upon one load for all of your hunting, be it moose, elk, bear or deer, if possible. I'd never use the Ballistic Tip for the larger critters unless circumstances gave me no other choice.

Still, if you're hunting deer with a 7x57, I think a Ballistic Tip would give awesome results. Just watch your shot angles.
