i had the luck of 9.3 bullets with the hornady 286 grains usable at the range only and the nosler partition so i find the right partner for training.
i got similar result with the 200 grains woodleigh and 200 grains nosler partition but both now are too expensive to waste i may try with some speer to see where it goes again all in varget ...
Finding Speer 9.3 diameter bullets is going to be a chore in itself.
Speer makes several different types of bullets and has an exclusive "Hot Core" process they use when making up their bullets.
The Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullets are bone crushers. They have a solid base, for half their length and the rest is filled with molten lead at 900F, then swaged into shape. I've never been able to recover one. They don't make them in 9.3mm
They make them in most other calibers though.
Their next toughest bullet is the Grand Slam, then the Mag Tip. Both of these are also Hot Core and perform very well on game, even at ranges around 25 meters at higher velocities. I shot a Moose a few years ago, using the 225 gr Mag Tip/2700fps in my 338-06 at just over 30 meters and the exit hole out of the far side, after going through a rib was appx 2cm across.
I realize that isn't any screaming hell for velocity, especially from the larger magnums, like the 338 Ultra Mag but that's still pretty good performance at such up close and personal ranges.
In other rifles, such as the 8x57/7x57/30-06/308Win and 270Win, I use the Speer Hot Core bullets, which are cup and cone types, with lead Spire Point, Flat Base bullets for hunting Deer and Bear, when I can find them more than a box at a time. I like to purchase several boxes from the same lot#.
I load these cartridges up with intermediate and heavy for caliber bullets at velocities that seldom exceed 2900fps.
I've yet been able to recover a bullet from an animal, even Deer/Bears shot at close ranges, 50-100yds from blinds or tree stands. (my tree stand days are over, unless it's a permanent large platform type and not the ''walk the stand up the tree type''
I just purchased some Speer 7mm Hot Core, 145 grain Grand Slam bullets from BUDGET SHOOTER SUPPLY.
The price on these is very reasonable. $155 shipped to my doorstep for 200 bullets.
I didn't look at any of the other calibers to see if they had these in other calibers.
I picked up some 196 grain, 8mm Speer Hot Core bullets from Henry last fall. Excellent accuracy, with well made components.
I also find that Speer bullets don't seem to foul as much as some other types, especially Nosler and Barnes.
