Hey folks, I'm interested in NR black rifles with legal 10 round mags. I'm aware of the XCR and the pistol calibre carbines, I'm just wondering if there are any more? I'm interested in picking up an HK SL8, but it seems to be stuck with 5 rd mags. I'm thinking maybe the magwell adapter will let it take LAR-15 pistol mags. I really really hate the 5 rd mag limit. I'm only interested in centre fire rifles as well.

Do you mean black rifles that are compatible with pistol mags, or black rifles that have their own pistol mags?

I just heard about the Robinson Arms M96 that is NR and takes AR mags so you could get some pistols mags going. Kel tec SU16 can take 223 pistol mags as well.

there are lot's, I have suggested a sticky to address this and all other non restricted black rifles, the idea took a lot of shiit.

What can I say it's old.

There are tons, but all I have to add today is Swiss Arms with AR mag adapter or AR mag accepting lower, NEA makes one, and I believe there may even be a Swiss one out there now

MR-1, AR180B, Type 97 - all NR. Isn't the CX4 restricted or just the short barrel version? Not black but red - CZ858 with B&T magwell adapter in 7.62, or with CSA adapter in .223

I agreed with you, there should be a list that is sticked. This thread will be off topic by page 3 as usual.

The storm is restricted from the factory. You can get it re-barrelled with an 18.5" barrel. Not a cheap process. I believe there were dealers selling them already re-barrelled at on time.

I think the reason why a list doesn't become a sticky is that certain people have fears that it will turn into a shopping list of sorts for the antis to ID and selectively target the models that are listed.

Those certain people need to relax, simply keep the pictures out of the list when their all gathered in the same page to satisfy these certain people. The anti's can find it all so easily anyway. To discuss this same thing and see this same or similar thread appear three times a week is a freakin' joke.

Sorry OP, this isn't your fault, some people around here refuse to gather a list of all of the NR Blacks rifles in the same thread and sticky it. This list, which doesn't exist, would have all the info your looking for in it, it may even have some stuff you didn't know. But sorry, it doesn't exist!

... I'm interested in picking up an HK SL8, but it seems to be stuck with 5 rd mags. ...

5rd limit on the stock SL8.

HK 5rd mags are silly expensive ($250-ish?). Speer SL8 mags are decent priced ($45-ish).
Speer has SL8 5, 7, 10, and 30 rd mags available but only the 5 or pinned-5 are legal in Canada. The 5 and 7 are simply blocked 10s.

To use AR mags you have to hack up the rifle to get the AR magwell adapter to fit, which for many people means the value/resale of the firearm drops significantly.
I have seen some of the magwell hacks that were done by people over the years on the HK forums and most have imho ruined the rifle. It looks like they used a dull axe. I would maybe give them $100 for the rifle for parts if the rest of the rifle were brand new.

FYI My SL8-5 is stock. I find 5rds is sufficient when target shooting the rifle. Buy 3 or 4 Speer mags if you need to swap mags quickly.

Keep in mind, once the US brings in their new AWB laws, the HK mags will look cheap compared to AR mags, PMags, etc. ;)

Thanks guys. I didn't know about the Stanag mag thing. I already have a couple of the rifles mentioned and I'm looking to grow my collection. I'm trying to decided whether to get the XCR-M or the H&K SL-8, but I don't know whether there are 10 round pistol mags for them, can't find anything googling.

I read the other threads, but they didn't mention anything about 10 round mags, so sorry to create yet another similar thread.

To get 10rds on the SL8 you have to hack in an AR magwell adapter and use 10rd pistol mags.
See my post right above yours.

XCR-M is .308 or .260, HK SL8 is .223, are you sure you don't mean XCR-L in .223?
IMHO go with an XCR-L if you want a .223. I use XCR 10rd pistol mags on my XCR-L and they are much higher quality than any other LAR-15s I have bought.

OK, thanks for the info about the SL8. How about the NEA magwell adapter? I wonder if that will work without damaging the SL8 in any way? Everybody seems out of stock of them anyways though.

Well, I was considering a XCR-M because I already have the XCR-L and love it. But I am only budgeting for another moderately priced addition for now, so I was thinking of getting the XCR-M or the SL8 which are both in the same price range. I'd like to have a few rifles in 223, but I don't have anything in 308 at the moment. Does the XCR-M have 10 round pistol mags available? If so, it must be one heckuva pistol.

I would not call installing an AR adapter "hacking in". Yes, you do need to modify the reciecver to have the mags drop free. You don't have to remove all the material for STANAG mags as they are already much smaller than the sandard G36 mags. The original reason to remove the entire tab was for the G36 mags. Some people have the AR adapter and have been able to run the AR mags in thier SL8 without any modification to the receiver.

I would strongly urge you to have a look at the SL8 sticky before you believe that there is a need to "HACK" your SL8...

"value/resale of the firearm drops significantly"...

Seller: I have slighty and lightly modified the received of my SL8 by shaving off a tiny tab of polymer inside of it so that it now accepts, with it's adapter, 10-round LAR-15 magazines.
Buyer: WHATTTTTTTTTTTT. Who could possibly need more than 5 rounds!!!!!!!!!

Sigh.

To get 10rds on the SL8 you have to hack in an AR magwell adapter and use 10rd pistol mags.

I think there is some confusion here. The American SL8s had single stack mags, and required some hacking to get the NEA adapter in place. (USA import restrictions for firearms are extensive. They need to meet many provisions to prove they aren't "assault weapons")

Here in Canada we are blessed not to have the terrible import restrictions they suffer from in the USA. Our SL8s have double stack mag wells.

Possibly my misunderstanding between the two variations of the SL8. Sorry.
I know about the single and double stack and assumed it required cutting/filing for both.
