Hello folks, did a quick quick search online and ive found some models of the non restricted m14 or the norinco m305 but im curious if anyone has any bad experience with these models.. im a big m14 fan and I'd like to look into purchasing one of these guns..

Any members maybe in bc know of stores with these guns.
Thanks guys.

The actual military M14 is a prohib because they were all made to be full auto select fire.

The civilian equivilent is called the M1A. Sprinfield Armory makes them but they do start around $1800. Irunguns.ca has them in stock. There much nicer than the norinco's in terms of build quality. Canada Ammo might have the socom 18" ones in stock. The Norinco/Dominion Arms are quite popular so they can be hard to find as stores sell out quickly. I recommend you contact all the sponsers listed on this site. I do recall seeing a Norinco M14 being in stock at Al Flaherty's, they might still have it in stock.

I understand the American m14 is prohib. I wanted a decent intro m14 Non restricted. 1800 is pretty intense for one rifle.. honestly I thought 500-600.

Thanks for the quick responses!

Sometimes you can get one on the EE that has had all the bugs ironed out for you.
Which might be why they are more than new.
Worthwhile if you aren't handy, or are new to them.

1800$ intense? I don't want to be a douchebag but an m1a for 1800$ is pretty good. Honestly if you're expecting a quality rifle for 500 to 600 bucks you're in for a disappointment. But if you don't care about quality you can always go Chinese there's a reason why the EE is flooded with Chinese stuff at twice the price new...

I bought a Norinco M14, for $500.00 a couple of years ago from one of the sponsors (mail order) of this site, the rifle is a POS, the front site is about 7 to 10 degrees off center to the right. The guys I bought it off of refused to replace or fix it. I tried a couple of gunsmiths to fix it, they both said they did not want there name attached to it. When I did shot it impossible to aim, and fails to extract casings 3 to 4 out of every 10 rounds. from this experience I learned to buy quality once or live with junk for ever, the thing is unsellable, lesson learned.

This was more than the OP is willing to pay, but out of the box shoots tight. But same basic m1a national match super.

I'll give you $50 for it ;)

Knock the flash hider off with a BFH, and replace it with a USGI and put a new USGI Sight or put your old Norc back on and you may find it easier to Sight in. A good portion of the Norc FH are out of spec. I would also recommend a new set of rear sights as the Chinese are not great and lose zero. Then replace your oprod spring and oprod spring guide. These few small minor upgrades will improve your Norc M14 greatly. If you want a great shooter right outta the box you may be upset. But, with minor tweaking they can be made to be very nice rifles.... I love both of mine :)

Lol.. yes yes I know. But 1800 for an an action I've never shot before, im a hunter mostly. Not too into target shooting.
So please forgive my ignorance I don't mean to offend. I just wanted an introductory rifle. Something I can put my hands on, throw a few rounds downrange at paper zombies. LOL!
Is norinco a bad purchase?

No, it is a decent rifle. But may need some minor tweaking to make it a really nice rifle. However, there are lots of fellows on here that will help you with your tweaking. As well. 45acpking is in your neck of the woods ( home province) he puts clinics on to teach newbies to the platform. Buy it, read stickies and ask questions you will love it, as you learn.

Pop into Hi-Cal in Mission he has few Norinco/DA Socoms in stock at least you can take look at make you your own mind up if it is for you, and it is fairly close. I like mine, but I am just a plinker.

I also learned the value of a vaunted warranty...great until you actually want to use it.

My first Norc was as bad as you describe so I had the barrel cut to 18.5". it is now a great rifle and more fun to shoot than the second Norc, that I left at 22". As a matter of course, I chopped the barrel of the 3rd one because I found it nicer to shoot.

My experience with the Norc is this if your the kind of person who is handy and likes to work on things yourself their great. There is a lot of easy / not horribly expensive things you can improve on these rifles to make them decent fun shooters. There is also alot of very helpfully / very experienced people on this forum who can help you out. 45ACPking an tactical teacher especially. If you want a fun plinker it will do it if you want sub 1.5 to 2moa accuracy consistently (you will get the odd moa border line sub moa group and you will spend endless time and money trying to repeat it) be prepared for a money pit but still fun.

great great -- it sounds exciting.
i know, a few minute search through sponsored dealers you'll find a plethora of oddities to add to these rifles, to suit any persons fancy. i'm surprised to find that a lot of the add-ons are relatively priced.
perhaps i'll get the one that needs the work, there is no greater joy than building something from nothing.

I've had Norcs and Polytechs (made by the same slave collective) since the 1990s and have had nothing but great fun with them all. Can't beat the price and I've seen some sell for as low as $250 on here. You can upgrade them with USGI parts if needed. If you read the American firearms forums, you will notice that they envy Canadians for being able to access the coveted Chinese forged receivers.
