NRA Firearm Conditions & Standards - Why don't we use them? Video

Great video, should be an eye opener for a lot of people here.

I find it most interesting when you say, that 85% of milsurps should be advertized as fair only.

I fully agree.

Just yesterday, I contacted a dealer who advertised a Vz 24 in very good condition. When I asked about the bore's condition, I found out it's poor at best.
How can the rifle be in very good condition, if the bore is poor?

I agree with the above posts! The NRA rating is the way it should be done, cause simply there's so many people who call a milsurp good or very good when it indeed is fair at best. Oh well, I don't think most buyers care, just yesterday browsing adds in Canada I counted 4-5 Enfield sporters listed as good for $300-$400!!! The joke is I could see rust on 3 of them!!

The market has changed even in the short time I've been buying guns, and I thinks it's going to get worse before it ever gets better.

I try and buy guns locally simply because I want the gun in my hand so I can check it over with my own eyes. I'v only done one gun purchase online but in that case the seller sent me good pictures and was very honest in his assessment of the rifle. He said he'd never fired it and that the bore had rifling but it was badly fouled. I was comfortable in that case because the seller wasn't stating anything that wasn't apparent from the pics!!

As always great video Riflechair, keep em coming!!

Thanks guys
January was a weird month with lots of Canada Post activity because I've been mailing back rifles - not as described.
Very surprising because these were experienced CGN members with an excellent trader rating.
Descriptions were way out to lunch and one of the rifles was unsafe to shoot. it's now a parts rifle (removed from the market).

I think a lot of rifles are being pulled out of attics, from beneath the stair case, dusty closets and are being sold on the market because, even though the economy ain't too great, milsurp prices continue to climb. They are getting premium dollar for mediocrity at best. Caveat Emptor folks!

The video only touches on basics but I think (in general terms) ability to assess basic condition criteria is VERY lacking here with the CGN membership.

Sorry - just telling it the way I see it.
If you think I suck for saying that then, well, you pretty much suck more.

Not as described is a negative unless the seller is very accommodating and willing to make it right! Some sellers seem to think that if the price is fair there is no need to mention broken or missing parts and rust etc......you learn to ask these questions up front after a while!
RC did you have to pay the return shipping? The whole "send it back if you are not happy" is a drag but it's offensive if the seller wants you to pay for the return shipping!

- One paid return shipping once he had the opportunity to personally re-inspect the rifle in question.
- The other isn't being very accomodating but I'm still working on him.

I always try my best to state exactly the condition as I see it. However, my version of Good may be your version of Fair. That is why questions and pictures are a must.
