I bought one in early October and I am quite pleased with it so far. It's the black 28" model. I changed the shim in it because it was shooting low. After approx 3 boxes of shells playing hit and miss I learned about cast. hmm nice thing to know, not in the manual. I've owned and shot lots of different brands and models but never had one you could customize yourself.

I've been wanting a SBE for some time, heard about this shotgun and jumped in with both feet because of the price.

In the goose blind I found it to work reliably. I had it out in some fairly nasty weather and it cycled without incident. I don't really fuss with it but gave it a good cleaning when it got a good soaking. It is certainly not a pretty gun but it points well, patterns decent, and you don't get that feeling in the pit of your stomach when it gets scratched and banged around in the blind. I fired approx. 4-5 boxes of 3" and 3 1/2" bb through it. I never bothered to install the recoil reducer because I never feel the recoil when the birds are in the rig anyway.

We shoot some crows using cheap target rounds and it worked very well at that also. No jambs or trouble of any kind.

I took it hunting rabbits and found it quite heavy. Not something you really want to drag around for the day unless you have to. Having said that I'm used to a CIL single 410 and a mossberg 20ga.

If you want fit and finish and are looking for a gun to set as a centerpiece then you better look elsewhere. It is a working gun. I shoot geese at every available opportunity and don't want a gun I have to baby. If I could afford it I would have a SBE II, but in this price range I don't think I could find a better shotgun for my needs.

My hunting companion is a die hard Browning A5 man. I'm not sure this gun will win on the longevity scale but lots of others don't measure to the A5 that way.

Appologies for being long winded but I think this gun deserves a fair review.

I had the M2000 and went up to the M3500 and it is just awesome. Comes with stock shims, recoil reducer, drilled and tapped with weaver rail to mount if you like, shoots 2 3/4" to 3 1/2" shells. Cleaning it is as easy as a bolt gun because there isn't any gas system. The bolt comes apart without any tools or effort. It is my only shotgun for hunting. For $805.00 all-in including shipping and taxes, you won't be able to beat it for that money. And you will not be dissappointed. The 3.5" shells feel like 3" with the recoil reducer.

My next shotgun will be a Savage 210F for those pesky deer that taunt me at 150-200 yards.

were the target rounds 2 3/4 and were they 2 3/4 or 3 dram? Did it cycle? I am thinking of a 3500 but I shoot a lot of clay pigeons and want a semi that cycles.

I have now put approx. 15 boxes of 2 3/4" 2 3/4 dram equivalent 1 1/8 ounce shells through it. I have a shell bag that I use to hunt crows and just plain shoot and it has a mess of everything under the sun from hand loads to Walmart specials to old goose load. You know, any thing that happens to get scrounged up and it has yet to not cycle anything. I'm pretty happy.

I know they don't recommend anything less than 3 dram but it seems to cycle fine with them. I am not using them in a situation where having it not cycle would really piss me off. Just a little target practice with the kids.

I gave my gun a really good cleaning when I took it home, including a complete disassemble of the bolt. I lightly oiled it with rem oil and took it out to shoot.

I tried some light loads through it first to see what would happen and it would cycle the first two and then would not bring up the third shot. I then put 6 3" BB's through it and tried again and once again it would not bring up the third shell. I put 9 3" BB's through it and then tried the target loads once more and it has been spitting everything I've thrown at it since.
