Run watch ya got is my advice. Don't worry about the 'right gear'. I was an RO for the Willow Creek match last year so I saw every shooter come through and I saw plenty of 'unconventional' stuff and I was thinking to myself that there's no way this guy is going to pull this off, but alot of guys surprised me. If you have practiced with your gear whatever that is you will do ok. Plus its not like PRS where there is a whole squad standing there watching your dumpster fire, it's just you and the RO because the stages are blind and everyone else is in the holding area.
You will learn more about your gear, technique, and what ranges you can actually hit targets at under pressure in one match than you would in a lifetime of hunting or screwing around on the range IMO.
And yes the CDN $ sucks, but I shot 4 NRL matches last year and not once did I think that it was not worth the $$. Prize tables were also generous.
