Has anyone ever had problems with their NS 522 not feeding properly. Only one of every 5 cartridges will feed properly while the remaining cartridges seem to hang up. I switched to a different brand of .22's with no luck

When I got back home from the range I took the magazine apart and made sure it was clean

Any ideas?

When you took the mag apart did the spring and the inside of the mag look good? No burrs or imperfections that would cause the spring to hang up? Also was the spring in good shape and orientated correctly?

Yes. All looked ok, nothing out if place that I could see.

I'm thinking that now that I've taken the mag apart and cleaned maybe pick up some snap caps to see how it cycles

How are you running the bolt? Fast and deliberate or slower? I found mine runs best when I run the bolt a certain way.....hard to explain but it will be obvious by the results.

I sometimes catch the top round in the magazine poking to the right a little, this happened a handful of times my first day out with the rifle. I just nudged the nose towards the chamber the few times it happened. Hasn't happened since the first trip out. I'll second working the bolt with authority, helps with ejecting as well.

Is it just fully random the one in 5 that feeds properly?
How are the other 4 hanging up? tip down or tip up?

Like I said try adjusting your stroke of the bolt? It's not so much a question of Babying or being forcefull, but just figuring out what works....

The magazines hang pretty loose, maybe see if a bit hand pressure forward or back on the magazine makes a difference?

Exactly what I experienced with catching the top of the round. I'm going to keep working the bolt to get it broken in a little more

I found this tidbit regarding the NS 522,

It was said that a lot of the rifles had trouble feeding ammunition because of a poorly made magazine. After working with the rifle, I would tend to believe that it is not a magazine problem, but actually an extractor problem. While picking up the unfired round from the magazine, the bolt attempts to "slide" it into position into the head of the bolt. The issue here is that the right extractor is extremely tight and does not let the round slide in to place as needed. By simply honing the extractor with a whet stone, and removing some of the excess metal, the round will now smoothly feed into the chamber as intended, eliminating all feed problems.

polish the bottom edge of the extractor, the portion that the case rim must slide past on its way up the boltface, and do the same on the other side. make sure both extractors move freely in the bolt. this is very fine work, do not bubba these items, just a bit of 400 grit sandpaper and a fine touch with a fingertip will tell you when the job is done. take a bit of the same paper and slightly work the boltface...again, just a slight polish, you don't need to remove the machining marks, just smooth them a bit. check the chamber throat for any rough edges that may interfere with the cartridge on the way in, a magnifying glass and a spotlessly clean gun are required here.
