NS522 - Anyone else having issues with magazines getting stuck/falling free?

I bought my NS522 brand new a few months ago, cleaned it up, mounted rings and a scope, and put it away until today. When I was going over the rifle I noticed that the magazine would not "latch" and it would easily pull out without the use of the mag release. I gave the mag the old "AR15" mag tap and now the magazine is lodged in place and will not come out no matter how hard I try. I didn't hit the mag hard at all. I just gently bumped it with the base of my palm.

I had to head off for work so I wasn't able to get the magazine out. It looks like I'll have to remove the scope and gently try to tap the mag free from above.

Anyone else have this issue and have a solution for the mag falling free and/or getting stuck? I used the search function but I wasn't able to come up with anything.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I have had mine for over two years. No problems. Over 3000 rdns through it.
I do note that the bolt needs to be open when inserting a new mag.
I did have to adjust the angle of the base plate so that it would feed properly.
I would have a good look at the mag release lever for proper engagement, and adjust as needed.

I hate to ask a silly question, but did you insert it the wrong way 'round? The mag catch is at the front, exactly opposite from a lot of other .22 rifles, including the JW-15. It is possible to get it in backwards, and it is hard to get out that way.

Thanks for the info so far guys. The first thing I checked was to make sure the mag was in the right direction.

If anyone else has any tips or info to share I'd appreciate it.

Cheers.

So I got the mag free but it was not easy. I'm not sure that the mag release tab(?) comes out far enough to grab the magazine. The strangest this is that it worked fine when I function tested everything before I put it away after I bought it.

Does anyone know if the mag release can be adjusted?

So I just went through the rifle again and got it sorted out. The second magazine worked great so I brought out the digital calipers, took some measurements of both, and noticed that the upper rear most part of the faulty magazine was a few thousandths too long and it was not allowing the magazine catch to engage. A few swipes with a small metal file was all it took and it seems to be working great now.

I hope this helps someone else out in the future.

Finally off to the range next week to see how she functions.

Glad you found out the problem, good thinkering! My NS mags fit perfect but I'm having similar issues with aftermarket M1A/M305 mags, will take the caliper out and see what I can find.

Ive had zero problems as well, but very rarely the mag will only lock in place with the bolt open, most times it doesn't matter.
