Nuisance Racoons???

I have a small games liscence, and hunt when I can, but if a buddy on a farm asks you to take care of them for him because there tearing up the top of his barn and area, can you just go shoot them or do they have to be trapped under Ontario laws. I looked it up over and over and cant get a clear and concise answer, a response that would clear it up would be a nice considering this weekend is the only weekend off for a while to even get a chance to get at the buggers.

Sorry I can't help you out with this one Hank. It just made me think, I'm so happy to be in the praries where we never have to worry about that stuff.
 
The short answer is you can't shoot them unless you are the landowner or an authorized agent acting on his behalf. Hunting and protection of property are two entirely different things and your small game licence isn't much help.

Here is an excerpt from the regulations:

Protection of Property
Generally, you may on your own land, capture, kill or harass
nuisance wildlife to stop that nuisance wildlife from damaging
your property. This does not apply to moose, caribou, elk
or endangered species. White-tailed deer may be killed or
harassed with an authorization from the ministry. You may
also use an agent if the agent is authorized by the ministry or
belongs to a class of agents prescribed by the Regulations.
 
I get lots of farmers/ home owners asking me to shoot/remove racoons in the barn/ attic. Sometimes I give them a live trap where shooting is not possible, as in barns near the roof. Use the SSS method but keep it to yourself.
 
to go can tire and pick up a box of cci cb's in 22lr then follow the three s rule
or just have your buddy write out a contract stating that he has requested your services in the control of pests and nusseince*spelling* animals on his property. as i read the regs that makes you an autherized agent acting on his behalf

there will be more

so far this spring I've had to get rid of two from the attic and three from the chicken coop, and I think there is still one more around

You got that right. They never go away. After we thought we had rid them on the farm these little bastards showed up after killing +20 the previous fall.

Are coons considered fur-bearing? If not, I'd suspect they're simply considered varmints.

But what do I know - I'm from Alberta ;)
 
I believe that 'authorized agent' means authorized by the province, Not authorized by the landowner. The 'agent' has to be licensed as an animal control agent.
