nylon 66 refinish project

Hi there,I just purchased one of these old .22's in good shape and noticed that there was a few rust spots on the receiver as well as the barrel.I decided to strip it down to bare metal and refinish it.What product will give me the best results as cold bluing will not work?Thanks for your input,'Bandit.
 
Dan is correct. For the best finish on metal, hot caustic bluing is the best, but pricey.
There are other options, spray on finishes, cold blues etc, but these are susceptible to wear. Cold blue doesn't penetrate the metal like a hot blue does and is prone to thin spots and streaking.
 
I'm not sure of what the make up of the metal is but cold bluing does not work at all.Like you said,hot bluing is an option but expensive and not readily availible in Kelowna.Any other options?
 
There is a product called Blue Wonder that is used with a propane torch. I saw a demo once and it looked Ok, certainly good enough for your nylon 66. FS

Got one a few years ago in poor shape, the former owner it, even paint it with grey aluminium, he wanted the look of the Apache model.
So I stripped it, sandblast with glass beads, and made hot caustic blue.
It's now a matte finish. look pretty nice and all the small spots of rust pits are almost invisible.
 
Thanks guys,I used a product called super blue by Birchwood Casey.The end result was pretty good even though it took about 3 applications.I would be interested in info about parkerizing as well as armacoat for future products.Thanks for the responses,'Bandit.
 
well super blue from birchwood casey is a cold blue. sometimes one kind of cold blue won't work and another will.for a cold blue, it's surprising how long super blue will last before starting to rub off.
