I have a couple of the mag fed 77's I bought for my kids, plus a third for a spare. Light, reliable, fun to shoot. Just be careful when you take it apart. - dan
The removable mag version was the first gun I ever bought. $30 at the local gun show and had a family friend flash his fac because I didn't have one. Still have it, along with the steel tube Weaver K4 I bought for it the same day. I think I spent about $100 on the rifle, a couple mags, the scope, and a couple bricks of ammo. I've only ever fully disassembled it once, and don't plan to again. Makes reassembling my Ruger 22 pistols look easy in comparison.

I bought the same gun new in the early 70's, mine must have been one of the only bad ones made as it was a jam-o-matic ...very rarely would it empty a tube full without problems
Wow so cheap to build! As a kid I had a major hankering for one but my dad said there was no way he was going to buy me a plastic gun. Ended up an Anni 300 semi. Great gun!
My first semi. Bought and paid for by setting pins in a bowling alley and chicken catching. It was fun but traded it for an Ithaca 22LR cause wood is good.

First gun I ever bought was the mag fed Model 77. $43 at LeBaron when they were in downtown Toronto. Very dependable, can't remember it ever malfunctioning
Just sold one last week. I only ever fired a few dozen rounds through it but it worked as it should. Good tech for a 1950's design but not something I would keep now.
I did Remington warranty work from 1978 -1994
I don't think you want to hear my opinion of this gun all though Remington managed to make 22 lr semi that is the worst 22 semi ever built yes the Remington 597
I remember Dad bringing one home about 1959 or 60... and I shot it for years... and it never missed a beat... I don't know what ammo you guys were using to get so many jams.
It was several years later I decided to strip it down... it took me ages to get it back together in the correct sequence. Later in life I had a few brought to me in a bag for assembly.
I never thought much of them and I had a few go through my hands over the past 45 years.
I preferred Ruger 10-22 rifles and still have one from the first full year of production.
