Hi. Geez, you take a fine picture. Just the right size for dial-up members too. Nicely done.
Good info is here under Part 4. http://www.enfieldrifles.ca/main.htm
The HARC link is pretty good too.
"...Both with the same serial number..." That'd make the CFC crazy.
5thBATT of who? Certain amount of understanding with that choice. Just curious. Sunray was my call sign.

Hi Sunray,
I am on dial-up, so do consider others who may also be on dial-up.
I am located on the west coast of the north island of NZ, so this should explain the handle, http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-nz/wwct.htm

I have seen the link you gave before but these rifles are from the same batch of around 2000 No8's made expressly for a NZ contract, there should not be any duplication of s/n's

Hi. The CFC is our firearm registry bunch. If you were wondering what I was talking about. Two rifles with the same S/N would kill them. Clerks.
You won't get the mysterious acronyms if you put your location into your profile. Not being Canadian is a great thing. There are a few other New Zealanders and Australian members, plus a bunch of Americans. Be huge interest in NZ's registery experiment too.
"...made expressly for a NZ contract..." In NZ? I know NZ got a bunch of Canadian made Longbranch No. 4's. 'DA' is usually Dominion Arsenals. Mind you, that's was ammo.
"...should not be any duplication of s/n's..." Yep. Curious. You sure the bottom one in your 9th picture is 156 and not 155? The stamps don't look the same. Wouldn't be a horrible thing to have consecutively numbered rifles.
The diggerhistory site is failing to connect on IE or Firefox. Not to worry. Server is likely down. Figured it has to do with The Queen's Service one way or the other. ANZAC troopies were a decidedly serious bunch. You, your da or your grandda? Just curiosity anyway.

The bottom rifle in pic 9 is the rifle in pic 2, there is no doubt about the s/n's.
No NZ registry at this time for what are classed as A-cat rifles, so no worries about the s/n's, they could use the NZ rack numbers instead, maybe??
My Father was a member of 5th batt WWCT for a short time in the late 70's, but was a Bandsman with the British Army for 29 years, first with Black Watch & then as a member of the Band of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
I never joined the Army as i discovered Disco in my early teens :)

I remember Lever used to have racks of LE #8 in the store. They just sat there for many years cause no one ever wanted one. Then one day, they were simply gone.

Bought one of the NZ rifles early this year, paid alot and the wood was not as described by the seller. A good friend found it for me and was also disappointed in the wood, lots of marks and was not described as such. Glad to get one as they are getting tough to find.

Here is my baby bought at bud haynes for $180 , i thought i did well.
compliments the Mk4 below , . sadly the markings on it are really faint , but its made in 51 i believe , as there is a 51 on the wrist band above the serial number .
