O.F.A.H. calls on hunters for help
Belleville Police seek assistance in disappearance of area man

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) is asking its members and other outdoors enthusiasts to aid in the recovery of a missing person whose case has been classified as a homicide. The request comes after Belleville Police Service, in conjunction with the victim's family, contacted the O.F.A.H. in early October.

Belleville resident, 66 year old Calvin Vanness disappeared on March 26, 2008. Mr. Vanness called his brother in Arden, Ontario to say he would be arriving at 6:30 pm, however he never arrived, and five days later his vehicle was recovered in the car pool lot at Highway 401 and Highway 38 in Kingston, Ontario.

Hunters are in the woods this time of year and are well versed with their natural surroundings. Police are asking that hunters and area residents traveling in the area pay careful attention to anything out of the ordinary, such as unusual ground displacements or depressions, garbage bags, sleeping bags, comforters, clothing, personal property, or anything that seems out of place.

Police are asking that anything found be reported to the Belleville Police Service as soon as possible at 613-966-0882, and that the site not be disturbed.

With 82,000 members and 655 member clubs, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is the leading nonprofit fishing, hunting and conservation organization in Ontario. For more information visit
