Anyone ever buy another barrel for their o/u only to realize that it does not fit? Who has experience seating a shotgun barrel to their receiver and what does a typical gunsmith change for this service (on average). Your stories would be appreciated.

It's very rare for an o/u barrel to drop fit into another receiver. How much a gunsmith would charge depends on how much work needs to be done. Usually some steel needs to be taken off the barrel to properly fit the locking lugs and some adjustment to the barrel where it fits to the hinge pins. The steel has to be taken from the barrel as any change to the receiver means it won't fit with the original barrels. In extreme cases metal may have to be TIG welded to the receiver and then shaped to fit.

FWIW, some guns are more easy to fit than others depending on the design.

Had a set of barrels fit to a Browning Sporting Clays gun several years ago at a shop in Tabusintac, N.B. ( Randy's Gun Repair ) that was a Browning repair centre. Great job on the gun and very reasonable with the work

Depends on the gun. Most 68X Berettas will snap on the receiver, but often the forend off the existing gun won't work with the new barrel. I've tried Kolar barrels and they have all interchanged. Brownings seldom interchange without a fair bit of fitting. You should have a qualified individual check the fit on any barrel.

Most Browning 725 are interchangeable but alot of other brownings arent. If you get into the more expensive guns like Krieghoff or Perazzi they have to be fitted.
