Does anyone know the overall length of the 12.5" DA Grizzly? The Canam website lists the 8.5" DA Grizzly at 27 1/8". Would it be logical to assume that the 12.5" version is 31 1/8" OAL?

My Outlaw measured roughly 30". Damn all these shorty shottys!!

My 18.5" 870 Express looks huge now...

Thanks,

zulu5

FWIW my 870 with 12.5 Dlask barrel and Hogue 12" LOP stock is 31".

Thanks, I orginally wanted to get a dlask/870 shotty. But couldn't justify the price in my financial situation. I'm trying to decide between the DA 12.5" griz with ghosts or the 8.5" griz. It's about a $90 difference, and the 12.5 holds 4+1, 8.5 holds 2+1.

I'm leaning toward the 12.5 because of the ghosts. Although a 8.5" MAG is in the works...

I hear good things about the grizzly.

Aren't the 8.5"s 3+1 with standard length shells?

Anyway I would consider the 12.5s to be about the minimum practical length, the shorter barrels have tremendous blast and flash with full loads, poor sight radius, have really "whippy" handling and just give up too much velocity for many uses IMO.

Even at 12.5" these things are somewhat appearant.

I'm not too sure about the 3+1 with 2 3/4's. I've heard the Dlask 8.5" does hold 3+1. I'd assume it would be the same. The listing on Canam's website states 2+1.

This grizzly would be my fun project gun, my 18.5" 870 is my primary HD gun. Lately I've started thinking that the 18.5" barrel is just too long to navigate corners in my house.

I may use grizzly as my new HD, but I'm not sure about staking my life on a DA, even though I've heard they are bulletproof, built like a tank and deadly reliable.

Either way I'll have to wait till they're both in stock, in the mean time, I'll read the endless posts availble on the grizzly's

I would like to put my houge forend and tac star side saddle on the grizzly, I think it would look positively badass! I'm assuming parts are interchangeable because the grizzly is an 870 clone. I was also going to buy one of those pistol grips from the Canam website, just for ####s. It's only 9.99, and it would be fun to shoot once in a while, but I'd keep the full stock on primarily.

Cheers,

zulu5

I was looking at the dlask 12" barrel. It's selling for $299.99 + $10 shipping which is the same price as the grizzly 12.5". Might as well get a new shotgun, rather than constantly switching barrels. I have a +2 extension which means I also have to buy a endcap if I went with a dlask barrel.

Ah, choices in life...

I put a pistol grip on my DA Grizzly 12.5 and it made it to short (22 3/4in)the best stock is a Knoxx folding stock I havent seen one personally but i was told it should make it just over 26in with the 12.5in barrel. Once i get mine I will let ya know if it keeps it as a non restricted.

The Dlask is heavy as hell, much thicker in profile than even the heavy factory police barrel, the weight soaks up recoil nicely and the internal profile {and thus overall patterning} is probably better than the Chinese equivalents but it's just awefully heavy and expensive for what it is.

Actually if I had to do it all over again I would stick with 18.5" and call it a day, the short stuff is handy and all but you give up a lot to get that.

The more I look at the fine details on my modified DA 12.5" the more I'm concerned about the idea of relying my life on it. All the work I had done to it should have been done to a real 870. Honestly, the ONLY thing I like about it is the short handy barrel.

My two 870P magnums have roughly the same modifications but are both 18". They are simply much better guns. If one of them were as short I never would have considered the DA.

For the money the DA is a fun gun, but imo thats what it should remain, a fun gun.

Have suspected the Dlask barrel is so heavy because its cheap off shore metal so they went with a heavy design just in case. Pure speculation on my part, no facts to support.

The DA is cheap and short. If thats your only criteria its a good buy.

I decided not to mess with my 18.5" bbl on my 870, I only added a tac star 6 shot side saddle, 5 shot butt sleeve and hogue overmolded forend on it. It's pretty great like that, but kind of gets heavy when I'm rocking 18 shells. I'll probably take the butt sleeve off and put it on the DA Griz.

The Griz and my Outlaw will just be fun guns, perhaps a camp gun.

I do love the shorty shottys, I just saw the youtube vids of the Serbu shottys...wow

If anything it seems like the metal quality is better than that of most shotgun barrels, I wouldn't be surprised if its proper 4140 steel and not the regular mild steel used with most shotgun barrels.

I suspect that they're as thick as they are as a way of saving on machining costs. It's too bad they didn't come in a slimmer profile as that would make for a better handling gun that you wouldn't have to trim down the foreend to clear.

If I put the 12" dlask on my 870, I would have to scrap my +2 extension and buy a mag cap. Would I also need a new mag spring? Will compressing the spring damage it?

Probably would want to get a new spring. Compressing the longer spring into a regular magazine might not allow as many shells into the mag as a regular spring... It could maybe also affect how reliably the gun chambers a shell.

I tried using a longer mag spring meant for an extension in a stock length tube one time, it worked for a short time and then got kinked all to heck.
