In the US, this is a top brand personal defense round. In Canada, it's an expensive way to put holes in a piece of paper. However, I took some to the range this week to try it out. I will be posting pictures later :)

I tested the Speer Gold Dot 9mm 115gr GDHP (Gold Dot Hollow Point) side by side with the Federal American Eagle 115gr FMJ. There was definitely a bit more recoil with the Gold Dot, and I like to think that the extra cost per round made me more accurate, but I shouldn't think I am consistent enough to prove it! The holes on the target were a little bigger and a lot cleaner than with the FMJ.

The bottom line is that it's well worth picking up a box or two of Gold Dot for a bit of variation and experimentation, but it's unlikely that you'll want to replace your regular target round just yet.
