Odd .303 British brass - pics

The PP-73 headstamped brass, now goes by PPU, was pretty common stuff back in the days of International Firearms, SIR and others. I used up many rounds of that stuff in my 303's, I still have a small stash of them tucked away in my ammo chest. I considered it to be pretty good quality ammunition, the brass is very good quality although this vintage is Berdan primed as you noted unlike later offerings from PPU.

Thanks fellas! I suspected the PP-73 was some relative of PPU.

The photo makes them look like they are stretched, but they aren't. I bought a couple of bags of 200 last year at the Calgary show. I just picked through 200 and found one Berdan, and all the rest were in good condition, none showing any bad signs. I looked for the same vendor this year but no luck. :)

From what I've seen of cartridge performance and weighing fired cases for a limited number of instances, Igman (Bosnia) and PPU (Serbia) are close to identical for a given caiber. I believe the two factories were both part of the same establishment in Yugoslavia before it broke up so this would not be unexpected.

Regards,
Joel
