I bought a " Santa Fe Jungle Carbine " awhile back. If your not familiar with the name it's a company in California that among other things I guess, converts LE rifles to sporters and what not. It was just a #4 with a flash hider attached with a set screw, and the stock cut back about 3" on the bottom and about 12" on the top. This rifle has me puzzled about the stock. It looks like a regular #4 stock. But, the rear barrel band is about 1" to the rear compared to a real #4 stock. What type rifle would have a stock like this

I had the exact same rifle...the famed "Royal Commando" model...;)

Band was also to the rear...basically I think they sanded the hell out of the stock to remove the old band track.

I just checked the thickness and I think you are right..Kinda neat rifle in it's own right. I have lead on some original wood. I was thinking about putting it back to origin as I can , although it had 1/2" cut off the barrel.

Don't bother. Not worth it with a cut barrel.
I don't have any pics of it, but I had someone cut the lower wood to make a quasi- L42 looking rifle. (member Sgt. Striker did the wood work-thanks)

The barrel was recrowned to eliminate the Mickey Mouse chop saw job they did.

I also installed a cheekpiece and a no gunsmithing scope mount.

It's about the best fate for one of those Royal Commandos.

The screw retained flash hider sold on ebay for $62 USD...:)

"...converts LE rifles to sporters and what not..." Did convert. Santa Fe(Golden State Arms) is long gone. Sporterized all kinds of milsurp rifles. Their 'Santa Fe Jungle Carbine' is a heavily bubba'd No. 4.
