Odd Air Ministry Marked Chunk o' Steel for .50 Caliber Gun - Need Help!

Had this thing around for a while now....no idea what it is for. It is Air Ministry marked, and apparently for a .50 gun of some kind. I've poured through online schematics and come up empty. It is 1/4 inch steel - 18cm long, and 5.5cm wide.

While I do not know what it is, I know it was made by Simanco "Singer Machine Company."

These are the same guys that made sewing machines. They also made guns, and parts.

Hope that sparks something.
 
It looks like a profile gauge for the "Cover Extractor Spring" in the .50 Browning machine gun.

A tech would lay the spring on the curved edge of the gauge to determine if it was within spec.

In the British world this spring was know as the Spring Guide Transporter.

Top right corner, below the top cover, 2nd item down, right below the "LEVER BELT FEED" is a bent spring, I suspect it's the gauge to see if the spring is in the correct shape.
