went too a gun show and bought a mixed box of 44-40 shells ,, some are Winchester some Dominion and some UMC along with some marked with the WRA stamp .. there is one odd ball in there .It says 44 L instead of 44-40 ,, SO I assumed it was 44 long colt .. Unless I am reading Goggle wrong it says 44 long colt was stuby shell and this one the brass is the same length as as a 44-40 , the head stamp is WRA . Co.... all the WRA 44-40 have a small primer and this shell has a big primer like modern 44-40.. I have no intention of trying this in a 44-40 but it is close enough the guy at the show had it in with the 44-40 .. and the bullet is rounded more like a 22 verus the flat nose of a 44-40

Magtech .44-40 casing maybe? Just a random guess.

the 44 may relate to the year of manufacture and not necessarily to the caliber if this was military contract ammunition (made by Winchester Repeating Arms)

.44 Largo is 44-40 in Spain and likely is same sold in South American countries. The Win 92 copy El Tigre is stamped .44 Largo
