Odd behavior with the Tavor

I had a day off yesterday, so I took my Tavor to the range with a friend of mine. He is left handed, and I am right handed.

When I shot it, after last round, the ejection port remained open. When my left handed friend shot it, after last round, the ejection port would close. It made absolutely no sense to me when he first told me, so I called him crazy.

Sure enough, after taking turns on our targets, every time he shot it left handed, the ejection port would close after the last shot. I saw it happen over and over with my own eyes.

I did a quick field strip to make sure everything was in proper working order. It was all fine.

For the life of me, I cannot explain why, when shooting left handed, he consistently experienced the ejection port close after the last round.

Anyone else have a similar experience? It makes absolutely no sense to me.

I didn't try shooting it left handed myself. I thought it might be something with the way he was putting the mag in, so I loaded it myself. Same thing. Even tried with 1 round in a different mag. Same thing. I watched him shoot the one round and watched it happen. He didn't hit the bolt release. So strange..

So I was able to replicate the issue shooting right handed this weekend. It was literally hit or miss. I tried 3 different mags, and it randomly happened using all three. Sometimes the bolt would stay open on last round, and sometimes it would not. It was only me shooting it this time (right handed). I cannot for the life of me figure out why this is happening. There doesn't seem to be any real impact operational wise. It's not FTF/FTE'ing at all. It runs perfectly. I used two different types of ammo (Barnaul 55gr FMJ and Federal American Eagle 55gr), and it happened with both.

No idea what's going on here.

I had used three mags though, one of which is brand new (first time using it), another that is a year old, and the 3rd being 3 years old. Neither mag have more than 500 rounds put through them.

What kind of mags? Some mags (like magpul gen 2) push the bolt catch up JUST slightly enough and cause wear on the bolt hold open.
My next step would be to inspect your bolt hold open where it contacts the boltface and make sure there is no wear on it.

I'll second this issue.

Have you got a sling on it?

If your sling is hanging-wrong/caught you can inadvertently engage your BHO, making it seem like the last round still closes the bolt.

*Just read the OPs replies* Looks like the ol' P-mag tango!

What's your rear profile like?
