So I've been out and about in my stomping grounds looking for deer and I came across the weirdest rub I've ever saw in my life. The tree is not that big, probably 3.5" diameter but the bark is rubbed off starting about 2 feet off the ground, finishing up right around 6 feet high. Also there are weird piles of poop, piles about like an 8" dinner plate, about the size of those chocolate easter eggs wrapped in tinfoil (.75x.50?" terds).

Is this moose sign, or the biggest deer I've never seen?:p

That's what I thought but wanted to make sure. Funny thing is, the rub hasn't been there more than a week or so. We had walked that area previously and it sticks out like a calling card....I could not have not noticed it.

Buddy had a few of his cams up and said he thought there was possibly a moose, but poor pic or whatever, and that was in spring, he hadn't seen anything since so we thought nothing of it. Figured it was passing through and long gone.

Me and the better half just had a good laugh over this whole moose affair. We were talking about it, and I said "I wonder why I haven't noticed any tracks??" and then it occurred to me that I did.:D The weather has been almost abnormally warm around here some days, going above freezing and below. Anyways, you notice how normal tracks will sort of pull back to the outside, leaving a bigger track than it was previous??

There were tracks that looked way too big the other day, and I said, "I hope I see the buck that these belong to!!" We had a laugh figuring the weather had stretched them out and left it at that. Jokes on me.

Definitely a jackalope. They generally take great leaps up the tree to rup their markings to show other buck jackalopes that they are bigger and meaner. When other jackalope bucks see the size of the rubs it usually scares the #### out of them..............hence the large pile of ####.

How do you tell the difference between a jackalope doe and a rabbit?.... I don't want to shoot one out of season...... :p

The difference is that the jackalope bears antlers like a whitetail and the other sub-species have horns like a North American Antelope, like the horns of the antelope in my profile photo.. The North American Antleope can only jump maximum heights of 5 feet because of their larger body than their cousin ( the jackalope), therefore; I suspect that it is the first sub-species that made the 8 foot rub. They are smaller in body size and are noted to jump at heights of almost 10 feet. A rabbit does not bear any antlers nor horns. I hope this helped you.

LOL!!! Sorry for hijacking your hijack. There is one major difference between the jackalope doe and snowshoe doe hare. The jackalope doe has small spike horns or antlers which only grow 1 inch in length. It wound be prudent not to mis-identify a doe with a yearing buck jackalope........they are remarkably indentical to each other. The best place to hunt these creatures is in the Great SandHills of Saskatchewan, located in the S.W. corner of the province. Good Luck!

Sorry for hijacking your thread Saskgunowner101..... innocent humor. Truthfully, in my 3 1/2 decades of hunting the ellusive whitetail buck I never experienced a rub that was 6 feet high on a tree trunk. Many of overhanging branches above a scrape were twisted off at 6 and 7 feet, but not a rub. I would suspect a moose, or if you have bull elk in your hunting grounds he could be working that area. I wouldn't rule out a big whitetail or mule deer. Your season dosen't end until December 7 and if I still had a whitetail tag....... guess where I would be. Good Luck!!!
