rightio , so ive got a delay with the 7 rem mag , i stuffed the rear ring on the mounts so il get a newy this week, in mean time, i thought about buyers remorse after gettin onto the 7 rem mag and then realising im burning alot of powder for not alot of gain over what i was intending to do- that is the deer an sambar deer out to 400meters an touch on 500m with a rem mag for practise over time, look into taking deer at a max of 500m....

So i get the Rem Mag half sorted and have the issues of currently a powder not going to get desired FPS - not b all end all - as around 2800+ works fine.... but down at 2800 im not alot off the 708 with a 140gr. the 162 obviously gives more "energy" ....i would still actually prefer a 140gr woodleigh on a stag than a 162 sst from so far testings.... an could go a nicer shaped 140gr like a Accubond, thats what i would do. IF i didnt have the 7 Rem Mag now..

However with the 7RM out for a week or two, it got me wondering, Do i put the Vortx tactical 4-12 on the Kimber and shoot my 140gr Woodleighs? i know the drop to 400m..... hold over that is aswell as inch... click click makes that easier?

and OR Do i also load 162gr SST or ELDX?? in th bloody 7 Mil OH ATE?

the drop seems like too much for 400m with 162 velocitys??

Lend me ya thoughts here....

im starting to think about that a bit harder to be honest... no "energy" limit for deers, its basically all up to that bullet and getting it there , in my simple bush terms...??

Or do i simply get goin an forget the 162gr, for a 140 gr "AB" and send em fast for that "gain" i was chasing in trajectory and still have the oomph at 400m, kissing 500m if needing.???

Good one for Sunday :)

hooroo

ADI data for 162 doesnt show much of a loss realy, 40g at 2600 is plenty? for 400m max perhaps?
162 GR. Hornady A-MAX AR2208 .284" 2.875" 38.5 grain 2504 fps 43400 cup 41.0 grain 2644 fps 49800 cup

benchmark8208 and vargets the better option here. but id stay with varget i spose yep?

EDIT--

i actually loaded up 39gr of Varget and shot three rounds whilst confirming Zero on my 140gr PPSN load, the 162 sst had about the same oomph, but didnt group very good, start data was 38.5 ? up to 41gr, this kimber has proven a tight chamber in past and only likes lower end charges before shows pressure with the varget, so that 140gr load is 40gr 2208/Varg , I wouldnot load hotter for 162gr primers were starting to fill an flatten.

good for ####s and giggles i think but not something im going to persue... i love, love that 140gr woodleigh setup and Scope , its not worth Effen with!!

await the 7 rem Fix up i spose.

You know how the 140gr woodleigh perform at distance and like the performance so i wouldn't change the load. Just my 3 cents worth. Good luck with the 7mmRM when it comes together

100%, over thinkin and too much time on my hands with covid lockdowns per say.. :)

going to settle on lower velocity 162 accuracy load just to test out the dial scope and 162 sst's in the Rem Mag.

With the 162 SST @2.875” and Varget you could maybe take the lower node. If its a 22” bbl I’d aim for ~2500fps

H4350 would work much better though but it would have to be a stout load at ~2610fps.
