I stumbled across a model I'd never heard of, the Remington 725 bolt action rifle. Very little on the internet, what does anybody know about them first hand? What might they be worth? I know, I know, condition and chamber is everything, but I really know nothing about these rifles. THanks.

The 725 was only made for three or four years beginning in '57. Basically a 721/722 with a safety lever like an M17/P14 Enfield, but it does not lock the firing pin like the Enfield. Nicer stocks than the 721/722. Slimmer barrel also. I've owned three at last count.
It had 700 bottom metal before there was a 700..:), The release button is a different shape than the 700.
It was dropped in '62 at the the intro of the 700.

Three ! You still give me a hard time over the one I got off of you and you had two more ! I'm starting to see a pattern with you brother ........... If you find another one , I'll take it off you though . My daughter won't give me the last one back , the ingrate .

Thanks, how do you all like the rifle? Weight, balance, accuracy, good stock dimensions, etc.

The 725's are the closest thing I've held to a Pre'64 M70 Featherweight, very similar in feel, weight and balance.

As for Mr Anglia.......I know what you like now buddy,.....your wallet will never be safe....:)

An accurate description . About the rifle and my wallet . The 06 I got from Rembo is an honest MOA capable rifle with most loads I've tried . It is a very well made , accurate and dependable rifle that handles really well . That's probably why my daughter claimed it .

This is just a heads up. The 725 shares the same extractor as the 721 and 722. If it breaks, and it seems they are prone to, it is extremely difficult to source a new one. I have helped some fellows on this site with new ones but my source has dried up. So if you ever run across a new one buy it and hold on to it like grim death.

Here's a 725 I acquired at a gunshow a couple years ago.

Member anglia2 redid the stock, recut the checkering and installed a new pad to replace the vented 60's example and did a helluva a job,.....the linseed oil was still tacky and he had convinced me to sell it to him....scoundrel that he is.

The extractor issue mentioned above is a non-issue. I've installed the riveted 700 type in a couple 722's.

I would just have a sako style extractor installed then you would have a quality extractor Remington's extractors are the weak point on all the 721.725,700 rifles . Made a living replacing them when I did Remington's warranty work

I handles a couple 725's in the past 06 and a 270win, really had a hard time putting them down, love the Enfield safety!
Would love one in 375 H&H, you never no?
Great thread, love the redo on your 725 Sir Rembo, its a looker :)
Cheers Dale Zywina

I have a 725 in .30-'06 in near hang tag condition; I was stunned by the condition when I received it, think it's 1959. I disagree that these are a fancy 721/722. Alloy drop plate bottom metal instead of stamped steel solid floorplate. Different safety. Screwed on rear sight instead of dovetail. Yes checkered instead of plain stock. Clearly meant to compete with the Win pre-'64 featherweights
